Bettor wins $15K on worst upset of Nadal's career

One lucky bettor is smiling after watching the worst upset of Rafael Nadal's career Monday on the first day of Wimbledon.

The reigning French Open champion was set as a -10,000 favorite at many books heading into his Round 1 match where world No. 113 Steve Darcis of Belgium knocked him off in straight sets (7-6, 7-6. 6-4). Darcis was as high as +4,500 at 5Dimes and +2,500 to +3,000 at others.

SportsInteraction Tweeted that Darcis was +6,500 to win in straight sets there.

It marks the first time Rafa has ever lost in the first round of a grand slam. Darcis fought off five of seven break points to pull off the improbable.

The loss also means futures tickets for anyone who had Nadal before Wimbledon began. He was paying around 4-1 at most books.

You Americans must be F'N nuts betting with books that getting paid from is actually a concern. If I was an American I would Live in Vegas or not gamble.

If you deal with reputable books, you get paid out. I've never had an issue with payouts (I've never been paid out fifteen grand at one time - but I have had that much over a two month period). Use Pinny or Bet365. No payout issues. Of course, I don't think Americans can use those books....

StLBluesHockey I think you missed the whole point. Chopper was referring to how difficult it is to actually get paid by online sportsbooks, not a grammar correction.

Ha ha, I was thinking the same-but I'm sure he would have bet more. Still, you have to have huge balls or money to burn to make a bet like that
