Tiger improves odds from +1300 to +700 at U.S. Open

Tiger Woods failed to take advantage of soft conditions Friday at Merion Golf Club, which is proving to be quite a test for the field at the U.S. Open.

Tiger battled an elbow injury he sustained Thursday, and struggled to shoot a 3-over 73 in the second round to sit at +3 overall after 36 holes (T-17) - just four shots back of the leaders. Woods has never won a major when outside the top-five after 36 holes.

Tiger was being dealt as high as +1300 at some books Thursday night after he completed just 10 holes due to numerous weather delays. Woods (+700) is now lurking behind Phil Mickelson in the outright odds heading into the weekend after the field also slipped back in the second round to keep him in contention.

First-round leader Phil Mickelson, who opened with a 3-under 67, teed off later Friday afternoon and salvaged a birdie on 18 just before second-round play was suspended due to darkness, to finish his second round at 2-over par. Phil (+450) is the clubhouse leader along with Billy Horschel, who had the low round of the day (67), at 1-under for the tournament.

Here are the overnight outright odds courtesy of Bet365:

Phil Mickelson +450
Tiger Woods +700
Justin Rose +700
Luke Donald +800
Billy Horschel +1000
Steve Stricker +1000
Charl Schwartzel +1200
Rory McIlroy +1600
Hunter Mahan +1800
Nicolas Colsaerts +2500
Henrik Stenson +2500
Ian Poulter +3300
