Odds are out for the biggest and best games of the upcoming NFL season. Covers Expert Sean Murphy gives you his insight into some of these marquee matchups and predicts where the odds could move before kickoff.
NFL Week 3: Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens (-2.5)
Past history: Baltimore 2-1 SU, 1-2 ATS, 1-2 O/U since 2011
Early look at the Texans: Houston won 12 games last season and advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year. It’s division title or bust again in 2013 and the oddsmakers are on board with that line of thinking, setting their season win total at an even 10 games – highest in the AFC South.
Early look at the Ravens: After winning the Super Bowl in February, the Ravens underwent a roster overhaul. Their defense figures to look much different with veterans Ray Lewis and Ed Reed out of the picture, not to mention the departure of last year’s breakout star, Paul Kruger. Offensively, Baltimore should be fine, but Houston will offer a stiff early season test.
Where this line will move: I expect the number to hold steady for a while but with their first two games coming against the Chargers and Titans, there’s a good chance the Texans will be undefeated entering this marquee matchup. It won’t take long for bettors to jump off the Ravens bandwagon and that could drive this number closer to a pick’em as the game approaches.
