NBA Draft Lottery odds: Can Pelicans steal No. 1 pick again?

Sharp bettors would have scored big if they read between the lines and bet on the league-owned New Orleans Hornets to win the NBA Draft Lottery – and No. 1 pick Anthony Davis – last year. The Hornets had just a 13.7 percent chance of scoring the top pick and were priced at +650 to do so.

But, the ping pong balls bounced New Orleans’ way and the conspiracy theorists started pointing fingers at the NBA, claiming the lottery was rigged so that the franchise could land a star player to build on and be that much easier to sell.

New Orleans is no longer the Hornets – rebranded the Pelicans for the 2013-14 season. But while the name isn’t the same, the game is. The Pelicans have an 8.8 percent chance to winning the No. 1 overall pick again and are priced at +1,000 to win the lottery at TheGreek.com.

Here are the teams vying for the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and their odds to win the lottery on Tuesday, May 21:

Orlando Magic (25 percent) +175
Charlotte Bobcats (19.9 percent) +200
Cleveland Cavaliers (15.6 percent) +350
Phoenix Suns (11.9 percent) +650
New Orleans Pelicans (8.8 percent) +1000
Sacramento Kings (6.3 percent) +1200
Detroit Pistons (3.6 percent) +1500
Washington Wizards (3.5 percent) +1800
Minnesota Timberwolves (1.7 percent) +3000
Portland Trail Blazers (1.1 percent) +3500
Philadelphia 76ers (0.8 percent) +5000
Oklahoma City Thunder *Via Toronto (0.7 percent) +5000
Dallas Mavericks (0.6 percent) +6500
Utah Jazz (0.5 percent) +8000

Thabeet just needs more playing time. Who gets better on the bench?

My money would be on OKC at +5000. If we've learned anything over the past 5 years its that David Stern and Clay Bennett have a sexual relationship with each other. Stern is willing to bend over backwards to help his lover out and this would be another perfect situation to screw over the NBA. (see Seattle 2008) As we all know Clay Bennett is a "Man Possessed" so knows what kind of emails he and his organization are sending out to try and get the #1 pick. And since this is Stern's last year He would love nothing more than to give his Lover once last parting gift.

Not the best draft group this year...I still can't believe that Thabeet was a lottery pick #2 in a pretty decent draft class ahead of picks like Harden, Steph Curry and Ty Lawson...

OKC has set itself nice here with a lottery pick. A lost season for that squad, lookin for them to bounce back next season. Start with giving away Hasheem Thabeet's roster spot.
