New Jersey sports betting appeal paperwork due Monday

The paperwork for the state of New Jersey's appeal in the sports betting case that it lost was due on Monday, reports John Brennan of NorthJersey.com.

The four major professional North American sports leagues and the NCAA have until May 23 to respond. The leagues and the U.S. Department of Justice were plaintiffs in the case to legalize sports betting in New Jersey. They cited a federal law from 1992 that banned 46 states from betting.

The state has seven days to offer a counter response after the plaintiffs. A court hearing is scheduled for June 26.
