1* Detroit (3:40 ET): Not to "toot my own horn" or anything, but was my analysis spot on for last night's Tigers-D'backs game or what? I ended the analysis by making mention of Detroit's shaky bullpen (I had the Over) and sure enough Phil Coke, Al Albuquerque and Ian Krol all contributed in blowing a 4-3 lead the offense had given them in the top of the 8th. The two runs Arizona scored in that inning pushed that game Over the total. However, today I'll call for the Tigers to bounce back behind their solid starter Anibal Sanchez. Hopefully, the bullpen won't be called on at all here.
Sanchez has yet to lose on the road this year, going 3-0 in six outings w/ a 2.16 ERA & 1.080 WHIP. After winning five of six starts overall, he comes into today off a rare loss as he allowed 4 ER to Cleveland in 6 IP, still not a terrible performance by any means. He has a strong history of pitching well vs. NL opponents w/ a 2.15 ERA in six starts. Going back to his time w/ Miami, he is 3-1 in six career starts vs. Arizona including a no-hitter! Despite the recent struggles, I still give Sanchez a big nod over D'backs' starter Trevor Cahill, who in five trips to the mound has posted a 8.34 ERA & 1.941 WHIP.
Arizona has won 4 of 5 since the All Star Break. This despite trailing in every one of those games. The Tigers still boast a strong road record for the season at 29-17 while the D'backs have been awful at home w/ a 21-32 mark. The better team takes care of business here. 1* Detroit.
