Knicks' ice-cold shooting costing N.Y. bettors

It seems those cold New York nights are putting the freeze on the Knicks offense.

New York has lost three in a row SU and ATS due in part to poor shooting, firing a combined 37.6 percent from the field (90 for 239) and 27.6 percent (21 for 76) from beyond the 3-point arc during this skid.

The Knicks, who are 1.5-point road favorites at Toronto Friday, are among the most potent offensive clubs in the NBA. They average 100.2 points per game but have posted scores of 91, 88, and 88 points respectively in those three losses.

New York went 29 for 86 from the floor in a 125-91 blowout road loss to the Indiana Pacers Wednesday, and made only five of their 28 3-point attempts. On the year, the Knicks shoot 37.7 percent from 3-point range – sixth best in the league - and rank first in the league in 3-point attempts per game, with an average of 29 shots from distance.

Top reserve J.R. Smith has been terribly inconsistent during this skid, bookending a 26-point effort versus Toronto before the All-Star break with six and five point showings against the Clippers and Pacers. Even All-Star small forward Carmelo Anthony is struggling during this slide, totaling 27 points on 12-of-45 shooting including a 2-for-12 mark from 3-point land in losses to Toronto and Indiana.

Shooting woes aside, New York has struggled to cover the spread in recent meeting with the Raptors. Toronto has covered in four of the last five games versus the Knicks while the underdog in this Atlantic Division rivalry is 12-3 ATS in the last 15 meetings. New York averaged just 89.6 points in those previous five meetings with the Raptors.
