NBA All-Star Game: What bettors need to know

Eastern Conference All-Stars at Western Conference All-Stars (-3, 294.5)

The best basketball players in the world will gather Sunday for the 62nd annual NBA All-Star Game at the Toyota Center in Houston.

This year’s event will feature seven first-time All-Stars, the most since 2005. It’s the third time Houston will host the event. The last time was in 2006 when the East toppled the West, 122-120, earning LeBron James his first All-Star Game MVP.

TV: 8:00 p.m. ET, TNT

ABOUT THE EAST: Chris Bosh will start in the All-Star game in place of injured Boston PG Rajon Rondo, giving the NBA champion Miami Heat three starters for the Eastern Conference. Bosh says he was told Friday by Miami coach Erik Spoelstra, who will lead the East, that he had earned the starting nod. Dwyane Wade, who will be the only guard starting for the East, and LeBron James complete the trio of Heat starters. Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony will also be in the starting lineup despite suffering a deep right arm contusion against the Raptors Wednesday. The Celtics’ Kevin Garnett rounds out the starting cast for the East.

ABOUT THE WEST: The Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant (1,591,437) edged the Miami’s LeBron James (1,583,646) as this year's leading vote-getter in All-Star Balloting, earning his record 15th consecutive All-Star nod. Bryant breaks a tie with Jerry West, Karl Malone and Shaquille O'Neal for the most consecutive NBA All-Star selections.Bryant's partner at the guard position in the Western Conference starting lineup is the Clippers' Chris Paul. The West's starting frontcourt features the Thunder's Kevin Durant, the Lakers' Dwight Howard, and the Clippers' Blake Griffin. San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will coach the West for the third time in his career.

TRENDS:

* The West has won three of the last four meetings straight up and covered in four of the last six (4-1-1 ATS) All-Star Games.

* The East holds a 37-24 all-time SU advantage in the event.

*The over is also an impressive 5-0-1 in the last six glorified track meets. Teams have combined to score an average of 280.6 points during that span and have played over the number by an average of 14.3 points.

* The 294.5-point total is 11 points higher than last year's All-Star Game total of 283.5. The 2011-12 All-Star clash (West 152, East 149) was the highest-scoring regulation time finish in the 61-year history of the event.

over 147 2nd half .. i know this is not in the forum to help .. sorry .. using my predictions a 73 pt 3rd q is comin and a 72 pt 4th q .. equals 145 pts .. but i like the over , i was whalin with those q predictions .. now i see a big 3rd pt q at 81 and a good 70 pt 4th q = 151 pts + the 134 pts in the 1st half = a final game total of >>> 285 pts scored in this asg .. who wins ? ooh Lord !

last year the q's went like this 67 , 90 , 79 , 65 so it looks like the 2nd q is what rolled this baby over 300 so i guess i take back what i said in my q predictions . that was freestyle whalin im sure .. if the 90 pt 2nd q finishes 10 pts less at 80 then the total would have finished at 291 pts .. then you could play with all the q's right .. but . ooh well is a silly bet to try and figure out maybe but is a lot o fun .. soooooooooo ? what can ya do . that before this battle is over .. even a g-king can bleed .. i wasnt knocking lebron earlier .. is just kinda out there in space having ...... okay im done . lmao

46 - 40 = 86 .. if that happens the under is shot .. duh right .. that would mean the other 3 q's could averae 70 pts and would be 296 pts scored .. so looking at it with the no landslide high q possiblility is just tlooking at it from the other side of the looking for average of 73 pt q's .. ugh , or ? siple probablity again calls for a normal 280ish finish .. i was thinking they would do a dunk contest the last min .. and lebron would get to showcase his off the chart tomahawk ? lmao

46 or 47 means that if one team puts up 46 or 47 pt in one q .if there is a 46 - 40 q = 80 pt q then i would be vey afraid .. lol would look for average pts per q though .. like i outlined in post above . if there is one wack q on the high side that would suck for under backers .. had to add that right .. wont be a down q though .. thats silly .

to previous years set total is how it should read .. yes all i takes is one q to go over by say 10 pt .. at 46 or 47 .. there wont be a q under 72 pts .. so forget the down q strat pretty much .. lets look at it being like this >>> 73 pt 1st , 75 pt 2nd , 73 pt 3rd ad 72 pt 4th q .. lets add that up ........... = 293 pts there it is , maybe .

... or have we moved into another era and i was not made aware of this ? l ;;; ) it could very well be ? ooh my .. lets discuss this new mega million nba thang >>> what has changed ? same players ? coaches ?? same refs ? same commish ? same leauge ? okay forget all that.. it will simply come down to 3 pt shooting % .. not unlike most reg season games .. if they are nailing 3's unconscious it could sail .. though it would still seem that sail is not the right word .. it would finish close to PREVIOUS 280SOMEISH set total .. if they nailing 3's at a high clip .. but would still seem to set in the 280's .. have they moved into a new era ? and now the list of all stargame finals will always set around 300 pts ? crazy and NO ! from 2012 on .. BEST ANSWER >>> no iT will be the same as it always has been ... now lets get it on !

... not sure how anyone does the o/u on this all star game .. looking at the history it would be a no brainer to do under 296 or 297 .. is all of the sudden the whole style of the game changes then .. dont see why it would .. so have to expect a closer normal score that has dominated this style of game .. now did they use to only play 40 min ? lol .. that answer would help .. if they always play four 12 min q's then .. go with the under .. this is a simple common sense take .. i know all the talk of you never play under in an all star game because they dont play d .. is reason to think more in practical terms and go with history , that being the average score in these games has been well below 297 .. talking so much about last years game when they scored 301 pts ? iskinda weak , or maybe reeeeeeeeeachin .. lol just my opinion .. gl
