Around the rink: Monday's NHL betting news and notes

Take a look at our quick-hitting betting notes for all six games on the NHL schedule Monday.

Philadelphia Flyers at Toronto Maple Leafs (-102, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Ilya Bryzgalov (PHI), James Reimer (TOR)

Toronto is 6-1-0 on the road, but is just 1-4-0 at the Air Canada Centre. The Flyers have struggled on the road, with one win in six games, but went 3-0-1 to conclude their recent homestand. Ilya Bryzgalov, who has started 11 of the team’s 12 games this season with a 2.27 GAA and .921 save percentage, is 5-0-0 in his career against Toronto with one shutout and six goals allowed on 135 shots. Philadelphia has won its last five games in Toronto and is 9-1-0 in its last 10 against the Maple Leafs.

Carolina Hurricanes at New York Islanders (-111, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Cam Ward (CAR), Rick DiPietro (NYI)

The Islanders will be trying to stop a four-game slide when they host the Carolina Hurricanes. New York won four of its first seven games thanks to an offense that averaged 3.9 goals, but has totaled five goals in the last four contests. Carolina is on the back end of a six-game road trip, with one more stop after tonight’s meeting with the Islanders. The Hurricanes have gone 2-1-1 on the trip so far and have scored at least three goals in all four games. The over is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

San Jose Sharks at Columbus Blue Jackets (+160, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Thomas Greiss (SJ), Steve Mason (CBJ)

After winning all seven of its games in January, San Jose has yet to pick up a victory this month, going 0-2-2. The Blue Jackets are winless in their last three as they dropped a 3-1 decision to Edmonton on Sunday despite outshooting the Oilers 40-14. Columbus has scored more than three goals just once and the under is 7-1 in San Jose’s last eight games overall.

Los Angeles Kings at St. Louis Blues (-155, 5)

Probable goaltenders: Jonathan Bernier (LAK), Jaroslav Halak (STL)

After yielding 22 goals during its four-game losing skid (0-3-1), St. Louis received some positive news on Sunday. Jaroslav Halak was activated off injured reserve after being sidelined with a strained right groin. Halak has won all three of his decisions this season - two via shutout - and is 6-2-0 with a pair of blankings in his career versus Los Angeles. The under is 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings.

Phoenix Coyotes at Colorado Avalanche (+105, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Mike Smith (PHX), Semyon Varlamov (COL)

Mike Smith has been sensational against the Avalanche over his career, going 6-1-1 with a 1.54 goals-against average and .951 save percentage. Colorado has scored a league-low 21 goals and has been shut out a league-high three times. The Coyotes have recorded a point in nine of their last 10 meetings with the Avalanche (8-1-1) and the under is 4-0-1 in Colorado’s last five home games.

Minnesota Wild at Calgary Flames (-109, 5)

Probable goaltenders: Niklas Backstrom (MIN), Leland Irving (CGY)

Minnesota has yet to win on the road in four contests this season, while the Flames are 1-3-1 at home. With starting goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff on injured reserve with a sprained MCL, rookie Leland Irving has started the Flames’ last two games - allowing eight goals on 60 shots. Wild netminder Niklas Backstrom is off to a shaky start in 2013 with his lowest save percentage (.909) in three seasons, but he has five shutouts and 1.91 goals-against average in 30 career starts against Calgary. The Flames are 4-0-1 in their last five games against the Wild.
