Nuggets at Cavaliers: What bettors need to know

Denver Nuggets at Cleveland Cavaliers (+5.5, 215)

The Denver Nuggets put their season-long eight-game winning streak (7-1 ATS) on the line when they travel to Cleveland to face the resurgent Cavaliers on Saturday. It's the start of a four-game Eastern Conference road trip for the Nuggets, who have won 14 of 16 (10-6 ATS) to move into the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference. Cleveland also has been hot, matching a season-high three-game win streak (3-0 ATS) and claiming six of its last eight (6-2 ATS).

Cleveland kept up its improved offensive play with a 119-108 home win over Orlando on Friday and has averaged 108.3 points in its past seven home contests. Denver finished a sweep of a six-game homestand with a 128-96 win over Chicago on Thursday, but the Nuggets are just 10-15 on the road. The Nuggets have won five of the past six meetings, including a 98-91 win Jan. 11 in Denver, and are trying to sweep the season series from the Cavs for the fifth time in the last seven seasons.

ABOUT THE NUGGETS (32-18, 30-20-0 ATS): Denver displays impressive depth with six players averaging double-digit scoring and another on the cusp at 9.7 points per game. Small forward Danilo Gallinari (17.1 points, 5.3 rebounds) leads the way, but point guard Ty Lawson (15.2 points, 7 assists) and Andre Iguodala (13.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists) are capable of big nights. Gallinari has scored 20 or more points in eight of the past 16 games, averaging 19.8 points over that stretch. The Nuggets do not excel at the defensive end — even during their eight-game win streak they have allowed more than 100 points four times.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (16-34, 24-25-1 ATS): Cleveland's turnaround has been the result of improved offensive play, and particularly taking care of the ball. The Cavaliers have averaged 11.3 turnovers over their past 11 games, well below their season average of 14.3, and they have had only six giveaways in each of the past two games. Point guard Kyrie Irving (23.9 points, 5.4 assists) has led the charge along with newly-acquired forward Marreese Speights, who has averaged 15.1 points and seven rebounds in seven games since coming over from Memphis. Irving has averaged 33 points over the Cavs' last nine victories.

TRENDS:

* Nuggets are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Cleveland.
* Underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings.
* Road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Denver has not won nine straight since a 10-game streak from March 30-April 15, 2005.

2. The Nuggets are 20-3 when allowing fewer than 100 points and 8-2 when holding opponents under 90.

3. Cleveland has had at least two players score in double figures off the bench in seven consecutive games.
