Bucks part ways with head coach. Good for bettors?

The Milwaukee Bucks have decided to part ways with head coach Scott Skiles according to several reports early Tuesday morning. The move comes in the midst of a four-game losing streak with the Bucks set to face the Phoenix Suns at home tonight.

The news hasn’t seemed to impact the odds much. The overnight line opened with Milwaukee set as a 5.5-point favorite with the total set at 200. As of 8:30 a.m. ET, the line had moved to the Bucks -6 and the total had dropped a point to 199.

Milwaukee is 16-16 SU (straight up) and ATS (against the spread) and currently sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Skiles was 162-182 in just over four seasons with Milwaukee but he’s had struggles trying to get the Bucks to buy into a defense-first system with a lineup built around guards Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis, who would prefer to run the floor.

Skiles is the third coach to lose his job this season along with the Lakers’ Mike Brown and the Nets’ Avery Johnson. Both the Lakers and the Nets won handily and covered the spread in their first game with a new coach. Los Angeles beat Golden State 101-77 as a 7.5-point fave in the team's sixth game of the season and Brooklyn hammered Charlotte 98-81 as a 9.5-point chalk on Dec. 28.
