NHL, NHLPA reach tentative agreement

A tentative agreement has been reached between the NHL and its Players’ Association.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr announced early Sunday morning there is a framework in place for a new collective bargaining agreement.

A verbal agreement has been reached but the deal still has to be ratified by both sides and fine- tuned for legality. ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun is reporting a 50-game season would start Jan. 15, while a 48-game season would start Jan. 19.

I have been a die hard NHL fan all my life and I am totally disinterested. the whole thing was ridiculous. two New York lawyers fighting over nickles while hunderd dollar bills flew out the window. the league went from $2 billion in revenue to over $3 billon under the old contract. Bettman and Fehr have now DESTROYED that. I for one have HAD ENOUGH. I will watch my Penguins when they are on a "free" broadcast on NHL channel or NBC Sports but I will NOT pay for Center Ice this or any other year. this "league" has become a JOKE!!!

Only a futbol fan would say the NFL fixes games. You probably lost your $20, 5 team parlay and are now bitter.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm super stoked! NHL isn't only league to have lockouts. MLB, NFL, NBA have all had them. If anyone says they can't support a league like NHL, how can you support a league like NFL, that has games fixed to benefit business?...Rejoice!
