The Giants were able to stop the bleeding and salvage the final game of their series against Pittsburgh, ending a six-game losing streak before hitting the road. They are 3.5 games behind the Dodgers in the National League West but they do lead the Wild Card race, albeit by a half-game over the Braves and Cardinals so every game is big at this point. San Francisco is nine games over .500 on the road and has won seven of its last nine games on the highway against teams with a losing record. The Mets won their last series against the Phillies and they have been playing very good of late, going 14-7 over their last 21 games including wins in nine of their last 11 games at home. That is a significant reason they are favored here but we will be going against them as they are 6-13 in their last 19 games after allowing two runs or less in their previous game. They send Jon Niese to the hill and while he has been great all season, his first two starts after the All-Star break have been below average and it could continue here. He allowed seven runs in 11 inning combined and while he has fared well against the Giants, he has not gotten the win. The Mets are 1-4 in his five starts against San Francisco and going back, they are 1-8 in Niese's last nine starts after scoring five runs or more in their previous game. Ryan Vogelsong is coming off a quality outing in his last start and he has been pitching very well of late but has not been rewarded as his offense has not done much to back him. Still the Giants have won six of his last seven road starts including the last four against teams with a losing record. Play (955) San Francisco Giants
