Remake of classic movie The Gambler could be on the way soon

It looks like another gambling movie will be coming to theaters in the not too distant future as Hangover director Todd Phillips prepares for the remake of the 1974 classic The Gambler.

Phillips will reportedly begin the project once he completes the third and final installment of the wildly popular Hangover comedies. Shooting is set to begin in September in Las Vegas for the third Hangover starring the original cast.

No cast has reportedly been set for the remake of The Gambler, which originally starred James Caan and has a rating of 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The dark tale “centers on a UCLA literature professor with a gambling problem who runs afoul of gangsters.”

In the original, Caan is actually a professor at New York university and his gambling debt to his bookie spins out of control to the tune of $44,000.

The Gambler comes on the heels of Lay The Favorite, a movie about sports betting starring Bruce Willis set to be released sometime this year.

A super fine film. Just rent the original. Doubt the re-make will be able to match it. (Give me the 3).

This could be awesome! For anybody that has never seen this movie, I strongly recommend a viewing. My favorite sports gambling movie of all time. Best gets into the psychology of the gambler like no other since. Really a must watch. Besides Cann, also stars a gorgeous Lauren Hutton, Paul Sorvino, and enforcer bone breaker Burt Young(Adrianne's slob brother from the Rocky movies). Oh, and a sweet cameo from James Woods, in one of his first appearances in degenerate movies.
