Party schools vs. nerds: Who's the better football bet?

The 2013 edition of The Best 377 Colleges goes on sale Tuesday and the Princeton Review has once again released it's top 20 party schools and stone cold sober schools.

We thought it would be fun to take a look and see how these schools compare when it comes to covering the spread in college football. We took the top 10 party schools on the list that have FBS (Division 1-A) football teams and examined them against the only four schools in the top 20 with FBS teams among the Stone Cold Sober schools.

The winner? Looks like the nerds by a bit when it comes to betting the spread using the numbers from last season. But the party schools are better straight up and they see more overs than unders.

Biggest party schools (straight up, against the spread, over/under)

1. West Virginia University, Morgantown - 10-3, 7-6. 9-4
2. University of Iowa, Iowa City - 7-6, 5-8, 7-6
3. Ohio University, Athens - 10-4, 7-7, 7-7
4. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign - 7-6, 6-7, 10-3
5. University of Georgia, Athens - 10-4, 8-6, 7-7
6. University of Florida, Gainesville - 7-6. 4-8-1, 6-7
8. Florida State University, Tallahassee - 9-4, 7-6, 4-9
9. Miami University of Ohio, Oxford - 4-8, 7-5, 6-6
10. Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. - 5-7, 3-9, 8-4
11. Penn State - 9-4, 3-9-1, 2-10-1

Total - 78-52 SU, 57-71-2 ATS, 66-63-1 O/U

Stone cold sober schools (straight up, against the spread, over/under)

1. BYU - 10-3, 9-4, 6-7
3. Navy - 5-7, 6-6, 6-6
6. Army - 3-9, 6-6, 6-6
16. Air Force - 5-7, 6-6, 6-6

Total - 25-25 SU, 27-23 ATS, 24-25 O/U

The Ohio State University should definitely be on the top 20 list. Not saying it deserves to be in the category of Ohio University, but it could definitely be a top party school based on the size of the student population alone. Come to OSU's campus on a weekend in the fall, you even drive down Chittenden or Indianola where the Greek housing is.

Too bad college is just an extension of HS. I guess it is okay if your getting a Phys. Ed. degree. 12K a year to get drunk and take pottery classes. Parents are idiots these days.

Not surprised to see WV as number 1. Does anyone have any idea what there is to do in WV? Pretty much all you do is drink and screw down there in the mountain lands. If you leave campus you might be able to find some nice families where your brother is you cousin and your sisters your aunt. Crazy place down there.

This is what college is all about #1 try going to class,to get some ass, afterwards drink some beer and the next weekend start all it all over again. And for your hard labor doing this, you get a college degree placed in your hand to face the real world. Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and California State Chico should be on that list of partying schools.

those party lists are bs. i've seen schools disappear off that thing for years. wisconsin was number 1 a couple years ago. Indiana, ASU, etc were high on the list also. OHIO? Schools get pissed when they become known as the best party school and payoff the poll systems to take them off imo.

I'm surprised to see Miami(OH) make the top 10. I didn't think they were known for their party atmosphere. I think Michigan should be added to the sober list just because it is such a lame party school.
