Every week we take a look at the hottest and coldest teams as well as the best over and under bets in major league baseball.

Hot team: Seattle Mariners
Last week: 5-1
Season record: 58-64
Upcoming schedule: vs. Indians, at White Sox

Skinny: Felix Hernandez’s perfect game against the Rays last Wednesday helped lead the Mariners to a 5-1 record last week. Seattle took two of three from Tampa and then completed a three-game sweep of the Twins. The Mariners welcome the ice-cold Indians next.

Cold team: Cleveland Indians
Last week: 1-5
Season record: 54-67
Upcoming schedule: at Mariners, vs. Yankees

Skinny: The Indians dropped two of three to the Angels and suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the A’s last week. Cleveland has just four wins in its last 22 contests heading into a three-game series with Seattle on Monday.

Over team: Chicago Cubs
Last week: 7-0
Season O/U record: 56-60-4
Upcoming schedule: at Brewers, vs. Rockies

Skinny: The Cubs went over the total in all seven games last week. Chicago batters drove in at least seven runs in each of the team’s three victories, but a four-game set against the high-powered Cincinnati Reds really helped lift the Cubs over the total for bettors.

Under team: Atlanta Braves
Last week: 7-0
Season O/U record: 53-63-5
Upcoming schedule: at Nationals, at Giants

Skinny: Bettors who love the under have been riding the Braves all season long. Atlanta pitchers were lights out again last week, hurling two shutouts and holding Padres hitters to just five runs total in the four-game set.

Analysis:

I'm going with the Under as the Mariners and Angels wrap up a four-game set Thursday. Runs have certainly been scarce the last two games, one a 3-2 Seattle win and last night's 1-0 victory by LA. I see this one going the same way as Seattle sends out Felix Hernandez to help their cause.

Here are my keys to the game:

1. Hernandez - He is coming off back to back very strong outings. Both times he went seven innings and he's allowed just one run total. He's allowed only 10 hits in 14 innings during that time, including a shutout effort vs. Oakland last Saturday (that the bullpen nearly blew). But facts are facts. Hernandez has a shiny 1.74 ERA in nine road starts this season. Earlier this year, he turned in another quality outing facing the Angels. He went 8 innings and gave up only one earned run. Expecting a quality outing here is more than reasonable.

2. Seattle Offense - The reason Hernandez doesn't have a better record is because Seattle's offense isn't very good. They were shutout Wednesday after scoring only three runs each of the previous two days. Over the last 13 games, the Mariners have scored a total of only 30 runs. They have not scored more than four in any game during that time.

3. X-Factor - Talk about a bunch of rally killers. The Angels have grounded into 77 double plays this year, most in all of baseball. That includes 11 in the last five games.
