Monday night football: Eagles at Patriots

Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots (-1, 40.5)

There’s only one game on the NFL schedule to satisfy bettors on Monday night, but it’s an interesting preseason matchup.

The Eagles prevailed 24-23 over the Steelers in their preseason opener and travel to Foxborough for a date with the Patriots, who also won their first preseason game over the Saints.

Nnamdi Asomugha violently collided with fellow defensive back Nate Allen earlier this week, but the 29-year-old corner cleared concussion tests and head coach Andy Reid fully intends to play him Monday. Reid has publicly stated his starters will play into the third quarter against the Patriots.

The signing of Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps has dominated the headlines in New England this week. The former Florida running back is fresh off a silver-medal performance at the London Games and will no doubt be a threat when returning kicks for the Patriots this season. However, he won’t have an impact Monday as he’s not eligible to play until the team’s third preseason game Aug. 24.

New England’s projected first-string running back Stevan Ridley appeared to suffer a right knee injury during Thursday’s practice and is questionable against the Eagles. Expect Shane Vereen, Danny Woodhead and Brandon Bolden to get the majority of the carries if Ridley can't play.

I dont bet on preseaon,. Too many variables. But if i would, NE and the over 1st half. Wouldnt touch anything else.

no relavant information still.....don't care if Brady is out......how long you think they will play Mike Vick against NE first string defense looking to injure him!!.....not long at all.....how motivated with the eagles be to win!....not at all....who cares and it's no bragging rites to beat NE in the pre-season.....and then NE has a good second team.....that's why they are good.....so do the eagles and they will play too!!......I'm really starting to feel NE with the line over-reaction!!!.......NE first half +3........gotta love that!!!!

First post in a long while!......here is what is relevant!!.....almost nothing...Okey...this is a time when there is little information to research, and from a coaching perspective, finding out which players are good is more important that winning the game.......and were talking about belichik.....he doesn't release accurate information anyways!......so.....why has the line dropped 3 points already?.......I really don't know but am doing a little obvious guessing and think a lot more money is coming in on Phili.......could other information be drving the line drop........like..... game planning has a lot to do with NE's sucess and there wont be much game planning. Also, it's a great game to test Phili's team.....on road vs NE on Monday night will bring an excited crowd for a pre-season game!....1st half should be fun!..Maybe Belichik wants to see how good the team is now, not showing his cards, and has come up with a special game plan for a running QB??.....Who knows........who wins?.... leaning NE 1st half! + the points.....small play either way!!!!......Good Luck!!!!

Analysis:

I've cashed the Cardinals multiple times earlier in the week as a free play winner and think Saturday happens to be a good time to jump on them again as they host the Milwaukee Brewers. They took Friday's opener, 7-6, which was their 13th win in 16 games.  Milwaukee is going the other way right now, losing 13 of 15.  This series appears to be a big mismatch.  St. Louis is now 7-1 vs. Milwaukee this year.

Here are my keys to the game:

1.  Lance Lynn - I have to start here. He's 6-1 in his eight starts with a 2.88 ERA.  At home, he's 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA. Since his 1st start of the year, he's allowed more than three runs only one time.  Needless to say, I don't think Brewers starter Marco Estrada will be much match for him. Estrada has an 8.22 ERA his last three starts, though he did win his last.

2.  Hitting woes - The bottom four hitters in Milwaukee's lineup showed why they are hitting higher in the order Friday night, going a combined 0 for 15 Friday.  Heading into yesterday, the Brewers were averaging just 3.3 runs per game on the road.

3. X-Factor - The Cardinals seem to have solved their previous bullpen woes somewhat with Edward Mujica having saved all 12 games in 12 opportunities. 

Selection: The play is on the St. Louis Cardinals (1*).
