Tour de France odds: Wiggins overwhelming fave heading into Stage 17

In the eyes of most books, the Tour de France is down to just a handful of contenders.

The cross-country cycling trek just wrapped its grueling 16th stage, which took competitors up the Pyrenees mountains. Thomas Voeckler finished first in the mountain stage but leader Bradley Wiggins retained the yellow jersey, holding off Vincenzo Nibali.

Oddsmakers have Wiggins as an overwhelming -3,333 favorite to win the 2012 Tour de France, holding a 2 minute, 5 second lead over fellow Team Sky member Chris Froome (+1,200). Nibali is the third-overall favorite, priced at +3,300 and 2 minutes and 23 second behind the leader.

Here’s a look at the outright winner odds heading into the 143.5-km Stage 17 Thursday:

Wiggins, Bradley -3,333
Froome, Chris +1,200
Nibali, Vincenzo +3,300
Evans, Cadel +30,000
Van Den Broeck, Jurgen +30,000
