Odds have plummeted on Norway's Suzann Pettersen to win the U.S. Women's Open as she takes a one-shot lead at -5 into the third round on Saturday at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin.
Pettersen is now just +275 at
William Hill after opening the tournament at 20-1 before Thursday's round.
Two Americans sit close on her tail - Cristie Kerr and Michelle Wie - at -4 and those two players are now seeing odds of +450 and +1000 respectively. Wie ripped off seven birdies to shoot 6-under yesterday, her best round at U.S. Open by three shots.
Kerr has played strongly through two rounds and could easily be leading this event if not for several missed, makeable putts.
Sandra Gal, Vicky Hurst and Inbee Park are all two shots back at -3. A South Korean has won this event in three of the past four years.
Weather note: For the third straight day of competition Kohler, Wisconsin will see an excessive heat warning. Players have been melting in the conditions and officials have been going through 10,000 lbs of ice a day to try to keep things cool.
