Stanley Cup odds: Devils slight underdogs against Kings

The New Jersey Devils are +110 underdogs against the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup final after a thrilling overtime victory against the New York Rangers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference final Friday.

The Devils – the sixth seed in the East - punched their ticket to the franchise’s first Cup final since 2003 on Adam Henrique’s goal just over a minute into the extra period. New Jersey began the postseason priced as a +2,200 long shot and was a +127 series underdog versus the Rangers in the conference championship.

Los Angeles is a -130 favorite to win the Stanley Cup after opening the NHL Playoffs at +2,500. The Kings – the eighth seed in the West - rolled through the Western Conference bracket, en route to a 12-2 record which quickly made them the chalk on the NHL futures board.

Los Angeles is threatening to tie the 1988 Edmonton Oilers' 16-2 postseason record. However, history may be going against the Kings. Teams that cruise through the first three rounds of the playoffs often fall short in the Stanley Cup final. In fact, since 1985, just five of the 11 teams with the best playoff records have capped their red-hot runs with a championship.

New Jersey won the two meetings with Los Angeles this season, with both games coming in October. Looking back over past season, the Devils are 6-4 in their last 10 encounters, going back to 2003. However, the Kings have won three of the five most recent meetings.

The Stanley Cup final begins Wednesday in New Jersey. Oddsmakers have the Devils set as +106 home underdogs with the total at 4.5.

Pinnacle has the Devils at +153 for the series now. Seems like some good value in that line.

"Oddsmakers have yet to post a line for Game 1." they are up now in VegasInsider with the Devils a slight home dog. Las Vegas Hotel superbook (former Hilton) has it Kings -115 Devils +105 with the total 4 1/2 over -120. rest of the town (with their 20 cent lines) has it -120/even.

lot of parity in nhl. none of the teams are powerhouses. a bounce here and there were the differences i most of the series. the finals are a toss up. if the kings can handle the devils forecheck then the devils will be in trouble. kings have more snipers then the rangers and will put more goals on board. rangers had numerous open shots and (gaborik/richards) fired them high and wide. with that said i can see devils winning series and not making playoffs next year. they have done that in the past. prediction; kings in 6

tough call...the kings are red hot but the devils taking out the flyers and rangers and having home ice should be slight favs in my opinion..

Greatest playoffs for UNDERDOGS in NHL history. Proof that best teams don't always win championships and champions aren't always the best teams. Next season, NJ and LA may be overrated because of high expectations and overachieving is usually temporary.
