Lakers' Kobe Bryant misses shoot-around with gastroenteritis

Los Angeles Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant missed Thursday morning's shoot-around due to a case of gastroenteritis and his status is unknown for Game 6 against the Denver Nuggets Thursday night.

According to NBA.com, the team will have a better idea of Bryant’s health about 90 minutes before tipoff at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Head coach Mike Brown and the Lakers PR staff is expected to announce his status at that time.

Oddsmakers have Los Angeles, which leads the series 3-2, as a 1.5-point road underdog for Game 6. The Lakers are 2-3 against the spread through the first five games. Thursday’s total is set at 197.5 points, with the teams playing under the number in three of the five contests.

Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, which can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramping. Bryant is known for playing through injuries, but the team is taking his status hour-by-hour leading up to game time.

Bryant is averaging 31.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.4 steals in this opening round series.
