Ice picks: Sunday's best NHL bets

Los Angeles Kings at Vancouver Canucks (-175, 5)

The Kings will get another crack at their first playoff series win since 2001 when they visit the Canucks for Game 5 of the Western Conference quarterfinals on Sunday. Los Angeles built the first 3-0 series lead in franchise history but failed to eliminate Vancouver at home on Wednesday. The Presidents' Trophy-winning Canucks welcomed Daniel Sedin back to the lineup Wednesday after a 12-game absence due to a concussion.

Many Kings are not happy about the three-day break between Games 4 and 5, but Jeff Carter is not among them. Carter missed time at the end of the regular season with an ankle injury but returned to the lineup for the start of the Vancouver series. After going three games without a point following a two-assist performance in the series opener, Carter is pleased to have more time to heal. "I think with the two days before the last game, and then the extra day here, it's probably not an ideal situation, but for myself personally and for some other guys around here that are a little banged up, it's nice to get a little extra rest," Carter said.

Cory Schneider is likely to make his third straight start for Vancouver, leaving Roberto Luongo on the bench again. Schneider praised Luongo's demeanor and approach to serving as backup. "He's been great to me and great to the team," Schneider said. "He's handled this extremely well. He hasn't said a word and he's been nothing but a true professional and the great guy that he is."

Much like Carter, Daniel Sedin must be happy to have had three days off. Sedin returned for Game 4 and notched an assist. "The fact we've got three days in between games here is going to permit Danny to get up to his speed," coach Alain Vigneault said.

It's a steep price, but the West’s top seed won’t see its season end at home.

Pick:
Canucks

Just a forward for tomorrow: Take Ottawa to upset the Rangers. The rangers haven't won anything since the early 90's and they needed a herculean performance from Messier to do it. Ottawa takes the series 4-2 at home.

Seriously, Pittsburgh and Philly in the East championship. The worst goaltending I have experienced in 50 years, they couldn't stop a beachball and the winner here will go down quickly in round 2. That being said,I think Pittsburgh will be the better of the two in this series and will win today, I also agree with the over.

The Blues and Brian Elliott did it again and sent the Sharks home early here in Round 1. Four of the five games in that Series Won $$ on the Under......speaking of that, I won 1 unit on the Under to take me to a record of 138-119-3 for a total of +11.93 units on the season...............For Sunday I bet the Penguins -125 in yet another Do or Die game and I hope they tie up the Series and force a Game 7...This Series has had everything so far, so why not a Game 7 here in the first round? These 2 teams should be playing for the Eastern Conference Champion and not here in the 1st round, but oh well, that's how the seeds ended up at the end of the season..........The 15 games without going Under streak was broken in Friday's game where Fleury made some GREAT saves in the third period. And honestly, I hope Fleury does it again, but just in case, and also to play the percentages, I am back on the OVER 7 in this Game #6....I think the Canucks also keep their Series alive by winning on home ice, but they are way too juicy at -180, so only these 2 bets for me................Pittsburgh -125 vs PHILLY, to win 1 unit..................................OVER 7 (-110) Penguins vs FLYERS, to win 1 unit...........Good Luck to us all and enjoy the games!
