NHL betting: Flyers, Kings shake up Stanley Cup futures odds

The NHL Playoffs are only a few days old and already the Stanley Cup futures odds have been shaken to the ground.

Entering the postseason, oddsmakers had tagged the Pittsburgh Penguins (+400) and Vancouver Canucks (+600) as the top favorites to hoist Lord Stanley.

But after the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings took 2-0 leads in their respective series with the Penguins and Canucks, the odds look very different heading into the weekend.

Philadelphia has jumped from +1,300 to +550, sending rival Pittsburgh all the way to +1,400. Los Angeles opened the postseason at +2,500 but is now +800 to win the Stanley Cup. Vancouver has also slid to +1,400.

The New York Rangers, who entered the postseason at +650 – the third overall favorites – are now on top of the NHL futures market, priced at +450 and holding a 1-0 series lead over the Ottawa Senators heading into Saturday’s Game 2.

The San Jose Sharks moved to +1,400 from +2,500 after taking Game 1 against the St. Louis Blues, who dropped from +1,100 to +1,800.

The Phoenix Coyotes, who were the biggest long shots at +6,000, have been adjusted to +2,200 after defeating the Chicago Blackhawks in their series opener. Chicago has moved from +1,600 to +2,500.
