Hot lines: Friday’s best MLB bets

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals (-200, 7)

The Chicago Cubs finally picked up their first win of the season Thursday, just ahead of their first meeting of the year with the rival Cardinals.

Chicago pounded out 13 hits and Matt Garza threw 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball and struck out nine as the Cubs cruised to a 8-0 blowout of Zach Greinke and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Cubs supporters would like to think that is the kind of win that could get the team’s season turned around, but tread carefully here.

The new-look Cardinals are 5-2 to start the year despite losing Albert Pujols to the Angels in the offseason.

"What do you mean?" pitcher Adam Wainwright asked reporters when questioned about the lack of marquee names in the lineup. "We don't have Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman? Lance Berkman is a Hall of Famer potentially, Matt Holliday should have won the MVP in '07 and he's a batting champion."

True enough. It doesn’t hurt that the Cardinals are 8-2 against the Cubs with Wainwright on the hill. We’ll stick to the under.

Pick: Under

Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox (-120, 8.5)

Remember last season when the Red Sox started the year 2-10 before rallying to grab the division lead by May 27? Of course, they blew it down the stretch, but it’s probably too early to get worked up over the team’s 1-5 start.

That said, there are troubling signs. With a loaded batting order, Nick Punto and Ryan Sweeney have been the team’s best hitters to date. Against Toronto ace Ricky Romero, the BoSox managed just three hits.

And then there’s the pitching. Boston owns a 6.40 team ERA with Thursday’s starter, Josh Beckett, contributing to the problem in a big way. Beckett was drilled for seven runs and five dingers in just 4 2/3 innings of work against the Detroit Tigers.

Meanwhile, David Price got out of a couple jams in his first start of the year to come away with a win over the Yankees, allowing just two runs over 6 1/3 innings.

Pick: Rays

As much as I'd love to take credit for the MUTS ML (the rest I gladly will lol ) I have to say it was almost completely due to DMDDMS' system about playing a team after they're shut out. OAK won as -125 faves the other day and so did SEA @ +200 against TEX. Then the MUTS hit today at +170 so snce I've been tracking it t's 3-0 +4.7 UNITS plus I missed one with COL ??.....we need to follow this it looks ripe for the picking so far. And BOL on the Doyers K.T I had to lay off after seeing Richards numbers vs them H2H

Righties or lefties both are waaayyyy below the Mendoza line. I was just saying CLE has looked like trash all year at the plate and then ka-pow 7 spot in the first.

Yesterday was one of the screwier days I've had in awhile. It started with the Angels blowing a 6-0 lead over the TWINS who racked up 20 hits and 10 runs in the comeback win. Then Bad Lidge blew a 2 run save for WASH but luckily they came back and won. Later I made an NBA play but only mentioned it a few times on covers but now I see I never actually posted it which sucks cuz it won at +265. But oddly enough how things work out I made a SH play which I did post and it also won BUT this time I found out 5 minutes after I posted it that I was a couple minutes late and it didn't go in. So I guess that all evened out here, although it sucks to hit a nice +250 parlay only to find out it was a no go................................................................................................................................................................. The night ended on a fairly decent note though as I had played a shits-n-gigs 5 gamer +750 parlay at the end of the night and I got my units worth. I had ARZ ML who came back to win,the PIRATES who lost but after being down 3-0 in the first inning scored the 2 runs I needed to cover the +1.5. Then the MAVS who were up by DD's at half saw their lead cut to 3 with 5 minutes left help on to win. And best of all the B-Hawx were down 2-1 but scored with 14.8 seconds left to cover the +1.5 as well as guarantee the push on the total. So I didn't hit the +750 but even with the push on the total it paid a healthy +400 to cut into what were some shitty picks on the ice. Worst of all being the BLUES who I not only had for a few units last night but I also risked 5 units to win 3 on a series bet which just got a whole lot trickier.

MLB(1)NYY ML -155 (2)NYY -1.5 +125 (3)TB ML +115 (4)KC -120 (5)NYY ML to TO ML to SEA ML +320 (6)STL ML to SF ML +140.................................After watching the Angels pen the other day I think they may be in for a long night and series agai8nst the Bombers. In BOS I really don't think BOS should be laying 30 cents here so if the books are gonna give me the hotter team with Price on the bump AND +20 cents I'll gladly take it. And in KC I think they have the edge in starters and definitely with the bats as well so there laying the 20 cents make sense to me. Then a couple vig busters to round out the day back card.
