Mavericks, F Lamar Odom agree to part ways

Lamar Odom's days with the Dallas Mavericks have come to an end.

The two sides agreed to mutually part ways - although Odom will be listed as inactive, rather than being released, ESPN.com reported on Monday morning.

"The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it's in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team," Odom said in a statement. "I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."

Dallas hosts Sacramento Tuesday night. The Mavericks, who are 28-29 ATS on the year, are currently listed at +2,800 to win back-to-back NBA Championships.

In February, Yahoo! Sports reported that Odom asked the team for a buyout but was denied by owner Mark Cuban.

Acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers during offseason, Odom has been a bust in Big D. The team even considered Odom for a demotion to the NBA Development League.

The reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year has averaged just 6.6 points after putting up 14.4 with the Lakers last season.
