Public and sharps backing different sides in MNF

The public is on San Diego tonight, and so are 62 percent of Covers Consensus bettors.

But at least one high roller went big on K.C. this morning. The unnamed casino player – not a professional bettor – walked into the Mirage Race and Sports Book in Las Vegas at 8:40 a.m. and wagered $30,000 on the Chiefs, plus $15,000 on under 44.

“You throw that out and it would be 25-to-1 for San Diego as far as the money coming in,” sportsbook manager Jeff Stoneback told Covers.com.

The smaller bet prompted the Mirage to lower its total to 43.5, though it’s 44 or 44.5 at most books.

Normally the Mirage puts a $10,000 max on total bets.

“We gave him a little bit more because he’s a good casino player,” Stoneback said. “He’s just a guy that has a lot of money and likes to bet football.”

When the Chiefs were getting 3.5 or 4 points last week, sharps pounced on K.C. But they don’t see the same edge at 3.

Chargers-Chiefs line moves

“The Chiefs had the horrendous start, but one of those losses was by a field goal in San Diego,” Stoneback said. “They played ‘em tough this year, and they beat ‘em last year at home. Now they’re at home and improving. The professionals figured they’re the side for tonight.”

Jimmy Vaccaro, oddsmaker for Lucky's Sportsbook, agreed.

"Looks like the sophisticated players took the 4 when it was available, and the 3.5," he said.

Vaccaro anticipates San Diego money tonight from parlay players and "squareballs."

"But it will probably never go back to 3.5," he said, adding he might consider San Diego -3 (-120).

With San Diego drawing most of the tickets, Stoneback also said he could envision moving his line to Chargers -3 (-120) by gametime.

The Chargers likely will have stud tight end Antonio Gates (foot) and wideout Malcolm Floyd (hip), but will be without linebacker Shaun Phillips (foot) and running back Mike Tolbert (hamstring, hand).

The Chiefs are relatively healthy, not counting the three stars they lost to season-ending injuries by September.

I don't know how Las Vegas want them to play tonight. Hopefully none of them plays like Cowboys last night. It was suck to see one team defeated another team like that. SD will probably cover points. Not so sure about O/U.

Previous box scores show SD in control of the games.....SD's slopiness is the variable here.... I expect SD to put up 35+ points soon, and last week, they had some rust to shake off from their bye. This could be the night where SD rolls.
