Hot lines: Tuesday's best MLB bets

Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox (-155, 8)

James Shields wasn’t very pleased that Sunday’s rainout cost him a chance to go up against the Yankees.

"I was ready to go," Shields told reporters. "I feel really good right now, and I wanted to face these guys."

Instead, his start was bumped back so that he’ll open Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox and considering his history against the BoSox, he probably isn’t overly pleased about that either.

Shields, who is coming off a complete-game shutout of the Royals, is 1-7 with a 7.71 ERA in Fenway Park over his career and gave up six runs in a home loss to Boston the last time he faced the Red Sox.

We’re expecting some crooked numbers on the board to get this doubleheader started.

Pick: Over

Minnesota Twins at Detroit Tigers (-255, 8)

In need of some pop and a bit of protection for Miguel Cabrera in the batting order, the Detroit Tigers looked no further than the opposing dugout in swinging a deal for Minnesota’s Delmon Young on Monday.

"We like Delmon's bat," Tigers president/general manager Dave Dombrowski told reporters. "He's been swinging a lot better the second half of the year, had some injury factors early in the year. As you know, he drove in 112 runs last year. He's a guy that we fear[ed] a great deal, from an offensive perspective. We think that he can give us a little lift here from an offensive part of the game as we go forward the rest of the season and help us win this thing."

Young was hitting just .266 with four homers and 32 RBIs in 84 games with the Twins, but has been better since the All-Star break. Even though he homered in his first swing as a Tiger, he won’t be the center of attention on Tuesday as Justin Verlander takes the hill.

The Twins had just one win in 13 meetings with the Tigers heading into Monday’s action and we can’t see them getting much done against Verlander. Looks like the under is where the value is.

Pick: Under

Big Big bet on Oakland tonight, not cause they're a great team, basing it on how bad Baltimore is on the road (18-37), the fact that I don't think they win two in a row, and who they are sending to the mound tonight (Matusz, 0-3 last 3, team is also 0-3, 2.18 WHIP and 12.15 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and 10.80 ERA in night games, compared to Moscoso, 3-1 home record, WHIP of 1.18 and ERA of 3.18 with a strong last outing in Toronto. Nough said, GL everyone, nice to see you back Icall

WIth you on most of those picks (PHI, NYY, ATL, TEX, MIL & Balt-Oak OVER). But I'm not sure about the Cubs. Noticed that Houston in 2-0 this year and 3-0 last year in starts by Myers vs Chicago. He can usually be counted on to be shit but sometimes a guy just has another team's number. We'll see. BTW, did you hear that Rauch is on the 15 day DL due to an appendectomy - have a feeling his teammates performed the emergency surgery in the clubhouse after that all-too-familiar 9th inning last night. Glad he's gone for a few weeks anyway. GL on the picks tonight.

Good to here about the picks and about Cock-Rauch that guy is a complete pickle smootcher. I have a funny feeling about MINNY tonight though. Hopefully Zoo-Lander does his thing and just rolls over them but I'm a lil nervous about that one....we'll see I guess. BOL TommyTimHO

I'd say Verlander's a complete game SO from locking up the Cy Young. Weaver and CC have had rough outings lately so right now is when JV needs to set himself apart. Hopefully, Thome doesn't add to his homers tonight - I think you're okay on that one.

"Braves Win. I'll probably catch some heat for saying this, but Brian Wilson's act is so old. He is a self centered pos. It was so good to see him lose again tonight. Hey Brian, show some class. I can name 3-4 relievers that win consistently and don't..."
