VCU still the biggest underdog on the board

The Virginia Commonwealth Rams shocked the college basketball world by downing No. 1 seed Kansas but oddsmakers still have them with the longest odds of the Final Four teams.

"Prior to the start of the season they were listed in the field to take home the NCAA title, however at the start of the tourney we had them posted at 400-1,” Chuck Esposito, Race and Sports Executive of The Venetian/Palazzo, told Covers.com. “They are the underdog against Butler and have the longest odds of the teams left at around the range of 8-1.”

The Associated Press reported the Rams were 2500-to-1 to win the national championship at the start of the season but didn't say which Vegas book offered those odds.

"My future book has been open for about eight months and I opened VCU at 350 to 1," Johnny Avello, Executive Director of Race and Sports Operations at The Wynn/Encore in Las Vegas, told Covers.com Sunday evening. "I don't believe anyone would have opened that high (+250,000) but it's remotely possible."

VCU opened as a 2.5-point underdog against Butler with the total pegged at 131.

“Regarding this year's tourney, I felt all along we could see a number of surprises but I never thought you would see Butler and VCU playing in the Final Four,” Esposito added. “I expect these matchups will generate some great handle with two popular teams in UConn and Kentucky and the Cinderella stories of Butler and VCU.”
