The Houston Astros have dealt ace starter Roy Oswalt to the Philadelphia Phillies in a four-player deal.
The trade was contingent on Oswalt waiving his no-trade clause, which he agreed to do Thurday. In return Houston picks up young starter J.A. Happ, outfield prospect Anthony Gose and 19-year-old shortstop Jonathan Villar.
The acquisition provides the Phillies with another big arm alongside current ace Roy Halladay. Oswalt, 32, was just 6-12 this season but had a respectable 3.42 E in 20 starts with the Astros.
He is expected to make his Philadelphia debut Friday night against the Washington Nationals. The Phillies went from -140 to -170 and the total fell from 9 to 8.
A three-time All-Star, Oswalt requested a trade earlier this season. The right-hander posted an impressive 143-82 record in parts of 10 seasons with the Astros, including a pair of 20-win campaigns.
Happ, 27, was the runner-up to Chris Coghlan for National League Rookie of the Year in 2009, going 12-4 with a 2.93 ERA. He's 1-0 this season with a 1.76 ERA in three starts.
Gose, 19, hit .263 with four homers, 20 RBIs and 36 stolen bases for Class-A Clearwater.
Villar, a switch hitter, batted .272 with two homers, 36 RBIs and 38 steals for Single-A Lakewood.
The Phillies are currently listed at +1500 to win the World Series.
