Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli believes center Marc Savard could be sidelined for the season after he suffered a concussion during Sunday's game, according to a report Wednesday in the Boston Globe.
"He could be (out for the year) based on the grade of concussion," Chiarelli told the newspaper. "Tough to predict these things."
Savard was leveled by Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke, who lowered his shoulder into Savard's head with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Bruins coach Claude Julien called for a suspension for the hit on Savard, who had just unleashed a shot before Cooke flattened him.
Savard lay motionless on the ice while being attended to by the Penguins trainer and eventually removed with a stretcher.
No penalty was called on Cooke, who has been suspended twice this season.
Savard, who's led the Bruins in points for the past three seasons, has 33 points in 41 games this season.
