Canada’s largest province will offer online gambling this fall, The Canadian Press reported Wednesday.
The Quebec government is allowing Loto-Quebec, the province’s lottery commission, to construct poker and sports wagering websites. The move will link Loto-Quebec with other commissions from British Columbia and Atlantic Canada to create a common medium for online gamblers.
Raymond Bachand, Quebec’s Finance Minister, estimates that the government will benefit to the tune of $50 million in dividends in the first three years.
Loto-Quebec generates revenue for the province’s government. With almost $4 billion in revenue in 2005, 25 percent of those earnings were handed over to the government.
