Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder, who is third in the nation in total offense, has bruised ribs that may prevent him from playing Saturday at Clemson.
FSU coach Bobby Bowden made the announcement Sunday, one day after Ponder led the Seminoles to a 45-42 win over North Carolina State despite getting hurt early in the game. The quarterback will be evaluated during the week.
Ponder is averaging 327.4 yards per game. The junior has rushed for 304 yards and two TDs and thrown for 2,453 yards and 13 TDs with just three interceptions.
Against the Wolfpack, Ponder threw for 277 yards and ran for 29, playing through the injury.
After some early struggles on offense, the Seminoles are averaging nearly 40 points over their last three games.
FSU (4-4) is 2-6 against the spread but 6-2 against the over. Clemson (5-3) is 5-2 against the spread and 5-3 against the under. Bookmakers have yet to set a line.
