The much-improved New York Jets were looking for a big-play wideout and that search ended this morning.
The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade former Pro-Bowl receiver Braylon Edwards, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Jets would reportedly send special teams star Jason Trusnik and draft picks in return.
Edwards is a talented playmaker but he was criticized for a large number of dropped passes last season. He’s run into some legal trouble, most recently for punching a friend of LeBron James at a Cleveland bar.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is looking into the incident.
This is the second trade the Jets and Browns have worked out since former Jets coach Eric Mangini was hired for the same position with Cleveland.
The Jets are hoping Edwards can be a major downfield and red-zone option for rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez.
New York is a 1-point fave at Miami for this week’s Monday night game, while the Browns are getting six points at Buffalo.
The Jets opened the year at +2800 to win Super Bowl but oddsmakers lowered the odds to +1500 after the team’s surprising 3-1 start.
