Super Bowl XLIII betting action has been an interesting study since we opened the line just shortly after the AFC Championship game was finished.
To be honest, we anticipated much more action on the Pittsburgh Steelers than we have received. In our meeting prior to releasing the line, one of our oddsmakers felt that if we release the line below 7.5, that the Steelers side of the equation might get hit so hard that the line would be near double-digits before kickoff.
But the Super Bowl XLIII betting has in fact been – quite literally – the opposite.
We set the Steelers odds at -7 for the opening line and the sharps immediately pounded the Cardinals enough to move it off the key number of seven. The line hung around 6.5 and we saw enough public action to warrant a move back up to seven points but once the underdog Cardinals were receiving a full touchdown again, the action again switched back to Arizona.
We’re somewhat surprised on our end and our only explanation is that the public watched the two Championship games and is putting a lot of faith in the Cardinals explosive offense.
Although the action we get obviously won’t tell us who will win the super bowl but it does give an indication of who the public thinks will get the job done.
