Ice picks: Tuesday's best NHL bets

Atlanta Thrashers at Toronto Maple Leafs (-125, 6) odds provided by betED

If there’s a team more in search of an identity than the Leafs, it would have to be the Thrashers. Sitting near the bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference with the fewest road wins in the conference, things are looking grim for the Thrashers and new head coach John Anderson.

But Toronto isn’t doing much better. Mats Sundin’s first skate and talks of a possible return to the game have been more captivating than anything the Buds have done so far this season. On Saturday night against the Blackhawks, they couldn’t hold on to a 3-0 lead and ended up falling 5-4 in overtime on the same night the franchise retired Leaf great Wendel Clark’s number.

Things may be looking up for the Leafs with a rumoured deal to sign former Anaheim GM Brian Burke expected to be announced sometime this week.

Pick: Toronto

Los Angeles Kings at Calgary Flames (-165, 5.5) odds provided by betED

The Flames have stepped up their defensive game after giving up 32 goals in eight games including 10 short-handed. The club managed two-consecutive wins against the Avalanche before losing to Detroit Saturday night.

Calgary has goalie Miikka Kiprusoff to thank for the recent hot streak. He stopped 40-41 shots on net in his two games against Colorado and earned a shutout on Thursday night. Kiprusoff can thank his teammates making his job easier by staying out of the penalty box.

Coach Mike Keenan would love to get his offence rolling some that his team wouldn’t have to rely so heavily on Kiprusof. The Flames should be able to muster enough goals against a struggling Kings squad.

Pick: Calgary

Seems like we all got stung by the Habs and the Wings last night. Myself included. The only thing I like tonight is Under 6 in the Leafs/Atl. I like the flames but -170 is too high.

Was on Vancouver last night. The Canucks are only 2 points behind the Red Wings in the standings and have now beaten them twice in three tries. Anyone who thinks the Canucks aren't a good team without Luongo hasn't been paying attention to the NHL west of the Rockies.

STL/NAS feels like a SHOOT-OUT to me. Pro-Line tie, for those of you not celebrating Thanksgiving this week (although the Montreal player sure was in a giving mood last night...I'm sure his teammates gave it right back to him in the dressing room afterward). TOR - a rare Leaf win sounds about right. Both teams tend to score lots of goals but, funny enough, I'm feeling an UNDER here. A 3-1 win for Toronto And CAL to finish the night. They have been getting their a@@ kicked lately by good teams (Det, SJ) but they seem to handle everyone else pretty easily. Should beat the Kings by more than a goal.

OVER/UNDERS - I like Atlanta/Toronto OVER 6 tonight. Both teams have a tendency to let up a lot of goals. Paging through games both teams have gone for the OVER quite a bit.

That's the problem with hockey...teams at the bottom take out the ones at the top more often than they do in the NBA by a 3 to 1 margin I would say.

i made the mistake of jumping on the wings bandwagon as well, everything seemed to make sense with luongo out, i parlayed montreal and detroit, 2 OT/SO losses, tough night

i usually never bet on the leafs unless they are playing ottawa or montreal, because theres always a good chance for an "upset" against those teams but im planning on putting a lot on toronto against atlanta, fletcher proved heres still the GM right now and all those players that thought they made it through the offseason and are now apart of the leafs got a big surprise with the trade yesterday. regardless if burke comes in or not the leafs know their job security isnt too high right now, especially toskala (well hopefully) becuase every team needs a goalie to steal a few games for them and all he has done is ride the leafs offence so far, and lost some games for them. i see this game as a turnaround game for the leafs, even though their turnarounds usually last only 2 or 3 games before the losing streak starts again

Holy darn Osgood played like behind tonight. Wings looked like garbage too but all they had to do was kill 2 more minutes but Oscrap lets in a floater. What a bad beat against a team only as good as their star goalie whom is gone now, plus they all had the flu. Wow the 1 time I decide to jump on the Wings bandwagon they friggin lose. Will someone friggin unban me already.
