Hot lines: Monday's best MLB bets

Florida at Pittsburgh (-115, 9 ½)

If you listened closely enough, you could hear a few snickers from the peanut gallery when the Marlins announced veteran 6-foot-9 pitcher Mark Hendrickson would be their Opening Day starter.

Hendrickson was roughed up in that first start of the year, allowing six runs over five innings in a loss to the Mets, but rebounded to win his next three starts with just four earned runs on his record since then.

So who’s laughing now? Nobody’s ever going to mistake Hendrickson as an untouchable presence on the mound, but he can be serviceable when he keeps the ball down and doesn’t try to do too much. Against Matt Morris and the sinking Pittsburgh Pirates, that’s probably all the big lefty will have to do today.

Pick: Marlins

San Diego at Houston (-140, 8 ½)

Padres starter Justin Germano just can’t catch a break. The young righty has given up just three runs (all in his last start) over 20 innings so far this season and still hasn’t cracked the win column. That’s because San Diego has managed just three runs of support for him this season.

However, the offense has to feel a lot better after putting nine runs on the board in a win over the red-hot Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Houston sends Roy Oswalt to the hill on the heels of salvaging a single win over a three-game stretch in Colorado.

Pick: Padres

PS- C.C. is 7-4 with a 4.41 ERA in 14 games in Kansas City -- I wouldn't necessarily considering that "owning" someone. In addition CLE went 5-4 last year @Kauffman Stadium -- granted he was 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 2 starts.

Yo MEGS: I'm confused about one thing you stated: "-Cleveland scored one run in the last two games in Minnesota. Granted it was against two decent starters (Baker and Blackburn) I expect the bats to liven up tonight. At some point the bats will explode, Sizemore, Haf and Martinez are ready to rake the old man." What "old man" are you referring to? Gil Meche is only 29 years old -- which by baseball standards is considered the prime of his career...and C.C. is only 2 years his senior @27. Scott Baker & Nick Blackburn are both 26 years old. Why is Gil Meche considered an old man when he's only 3.5 years older than them & 1 year older than C.C.? Yes, Meche gets no run-support...and IMO he's overpaid...but he's far from being considered an old man, my friend. We can finish with this one tomorrow ;)

Yea SDK: Steep is one adjective I could use. MLB leans: -CLE ML -CC is finally going to win one folks. He own the Royals, and the Tribe have gone 8-2 in his last ten starts against them. The Tribe as a team play well in KC, must be the ribs, and are 4-1 in the last five in KC and 4-1 respectively in CC's last five road starts against the Royals. -Conversely Gil Meche is 4-6 against the Indians with a pitiful 2.9 run support average in his losses against the Tribe. The Royals are notorious for wasting his good efforts. -Cleveland scored one run in the last two games in Minnesota. Granted it was against two decent starters (Baker and Blackburn) I expect the bats to liven up tonight. At some point the bats will explode, Sizemore, Haf and Martinez are ready to rake the old man. -OAK ML West Coast Bias Pick Looking at the early games and I'm gonna finish capping the WCB pick.
