Galaxy remain winless on the road

SALT LAKE CITY -- Landon Donovan scored on a penalty kick to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a late lead but Real Salt Lake rallied for a 2-2 tie on Wednesday night.

Bettors cashed in on the draw at +220. Both teams were listed at +180.

Donovan had uncharacteristically missed the last two penalty kicks he attempted, but the midfielder buried one past diving goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the 79th minute to give the Galaxy a 2-1 lead.

RSL's Javier Morales scored on a 25-yard free kick in the 86th minute to tie it and keep the Galaxy winless on the road this season.

The Galaxy (4-13-6) dropped to 0-7-4 on the road.

The Galaxy again played without injured midfielder David Beckham. With the international star expected to play, the RSL sold a season-high 24,366 tickets for the game, though several thousand fewer fans were in attendance.

Striker Yura Movsisyan made his debut for RSL (4-13-8) after being acquired in a trade from Kansas City over the weekend. He set up the first goal of the game in the 56th minute when goalkeeper Joe Cannon tripped him in the penalty box, allowing RSL's Carey Talley to easily convert the penalty kick.

Six minutes after Donovan converted his penalty kick, he assisted on Gavin Glinton's go-ahead goal. The Galaxy had barely stopped celebrating when Morales scored his first goal in an RSL uniform. He had entered the game two minutes earlier.

Before the game, RSL announced the hiring of Garth Lagerwey as general manager. The former goalkeeper and teammate of RSL coach Jason Kreis replaced Steve Pastorino, who was forced out amid a front-office shakeup earlier this year.
