NCAAF Power Rankings: Week 4

By Jesse Schule - Covers Expert

There is a new team at the top of our College Football Power Rankings. Although former No. 1 Alabama are still unbeaten, they certainly didn't impress as much as the new No. 1 team from Ohio State. The Buckeyes completely dominated a good team from Oklahoma and jumped four spots to the top of the table.

-25 Ohio State
The Buckeyes didn't just win on the road at Oklahoma, they completely out-classed a team that came into the season as the favorite to win the BIG12. Ohio State has out-scored opponents 170-37 in three games.
2 1 down 1 3-0-0
(2-1-0)
-24.5 Alabama
The Crimson Tide needed to rally from a 21 point deficit on the road at Mississippi, and as impressive as the win was, some of their air of invincibility has been lost.
3 3 same 3-0-0
(1-2-0)
-24 Clemson
The Tigers failed to impress in their first two games of the season, and we can't read too much into a 59-0 win over South Carolina State. They should have their hands full against the undefeated Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Thursday night.
4 8 up 4 3-0-0
(3-0-0)
-23.5 Louisville
The Cardinals steamrolled Florida State, winning 63-20. Lamar Jackson scored four rushing TDs, and he now has accounted for a total of 18 TDs in three games. The sky is the limit for Louisville.
5 5 same 3-0-0
(2-1-0)
-22 Michigan
The Wolverines survived a bit of a scare this week, going into the second quarter down 21-7 to Colorado. They went on to win 45-28, but failed to cover the spread for the first time this season.
6 6 same 3-0-0
(2-1-0)

The Cougars had their struggles against Cincinnati, and the final score of 40-16 is a little deceiving. They trailed 16-12 early in the fourth quarter, but went on to score 28 unanswered points.
7 7 same 2-0-0

The Cardinal look like the team to beat in the PAC12, and Christian McCaffrey is looking like a Heisman contender again in 2016.
8 14 up 6 3-0-0

13 15 up 2 3-0-0
(1-2-0)
-17 Tennessee
The Vols are 3-0, but they haven't earned any style points in those victories. They host Florida this week, and a win over the Gators would give them a more impressive resume.

Power Ratings compute offensive and defensive statistics into one number for each team, while accounting for factors like recent performances and strength of schedule. Power Ratings can be used as a baseline for relative spread index to compare current or future match-ups between two teams. The relative spread does not account for non-statistical factors like home-field advantage, recent injuries, game time decisions, rivalries, publicity, and weather.
