respectfully disagree with this hypothesis...
it implies a correlation between enjoyment and being emotionally involved; you can definitely enjoy sports wagering without being emotionally involved.

...so let me get this straight...you thought clemson should be favored by 3'; the spread you have available to you is -5. so it's alabama or pass, right?! Oh no...you're such a homer, you find some justification in betting clemson at a line higher than you thought it should be.

Hokieal,
The differences in scoring between the two seasons you mention is primarily due to the clock rules changing in 06-07 to speed up the games; in 07-08 they changed them back and scoring went up. Nothing to do with personnel or BCS conferences...teams just had time to run more plays in the 07-08 season, thus more scoring.

Exactly.
So I will ask again, VGPOP:
What did you get the New England Money Line at?

splooge i agree with athletes have to take the high road. they should let their game do the talking, when an athlete jaws with fans it lets the fans know that they are getting under the players skin.
It was pretty clear to me that the fans were NOT getting under Rivers' skin; rather, he was getting under theirs. |

This is not about playing 100 times and how many times a team in question would come out as the winner. I am taking about THIS instance. THIS chance. THIS game. Patriots 100%. Book it. So what did you get the ML at? -700 or better? |

OC, I can walk to that place from where I live; solid place for fish tacos, I agree. San Diego in general is about as good as it gets for fish tacos.
excellent thread.

Fu&$.....cbssportsline is reporting June Jones "hot and heavy" to UCLA....
in College Football I hope not, man.
UCLA job cannot pay that much more; pressure will be much higher.
Why would he switch? He's got the perfect job. Funny that the Bruins have gone after two WAC coaches...and they both should rightfully turn it down (like Peterson already has).

I for one won't ridicule, because I know overall you know your stuff.
Just seems a little over the top to say 'no way possible' he's going to win a match when he is already 7-0 on hard courts in Davis Cup competition. No doubt Youzhny and Dimi can play...just don't think your giving Blake enough due here. We'll see about the pressure, because it will be there, no doubt.

Ok...the Safin win was an exhibition.
Still think he is solid in the US on hard courts

Blake is 7-0 playing singles on hard court Davis Cup competition.
He beat Safin in Russia, on clay no less, last year. Now he would get whupped by him on hard court in his own country?
Stop it.
Saying he has no chance of winning a match is ludicrous.

it takes all of those red states in the middle to make up for the two on the ends.
Actually, it takes those two on the end to make up for all those in the middle...

Let's turn the discussion on its head for moment: what is/are the valid and rational arguments in opposition to some form of a playoff?
The answer to this is quite simple, actually...because college football doesn't need one.
Garfather Challenge: Name me one year where the best team wasn't crowned the BCS champion based on the "regular season playoffs".
I would be open to a 4 team playoff; but other than maybe this year, when has the 8th best team ever been able to sniff the ass of the best team? 8 teams is too many.

I would put this at OU -6.
It was 12 or 13 when they played earlier in the year in Norman and the game landed close to the number thanks to Missouri playing their worst quarter of the season after entering it ahead of OU on the scoreboard.
Taking away HFA reduces that line to about 8; I reduce a little more for performance on the field that game and since, but actually raise it back a bit because the situation favors OU in my opinion. Six seems right, though it will probably open lower.
If it's 3 or less, I'll be playing the Sooners.
