You go, Joe. We hate truck drivers on I-80 in Wyoming. They don't care about our families and kids. They're high on meth, break the speed limit and throw their human waste on our roadways. They tear up our highways with overweight loads.
We hate the 18-wheel killers who haunt our highways.

They're red herrings. The Weather Underground thing is a big time stretch. So Obama sat on the same board with the guy and he was polite to him. Big freaking deal. Only a twit like Sean Hannity would get his panties all bunched up over this.
Rezko. Hey, we live in a politics noir world. Everybody's at least a little bit dirty. I don't care who you are or what party you belong to. Even JFK got dirty help in Chicago. Grow up and get over it. The Bush family built their wealth helping the Nazis back in the day.
The Reverend thing is the most troubling because of the history. It could have been a deal breaker for me. But Obama did the right thing, first by distancing himself and then throwing Wright under the bus. I've got no problems with the tire tracks up and down Wright's back. You never had a friend you had cut out of your life or a business relationship that you had to cut? Happens all the time. If you ever get rich or famous you'll be surprised at how fast some of the closest people in your life turn into huge assholes who try leverage your success for their own benefit.
None of these are mortal wounds. Obama's value at putting together a strong political organization, building strong coalitions of influential people in and out of Washingtion, his phenomenal fundraising ability and his broad appeal make him the best chance for the Democrats to bring down the curtains on the disaster that the Republicans have given us for the last eight years.

Right now I'm giving her until October 7th until she gets the boot. If the old man is bogged down in one stupid Palin distraction after another throughout September, he's going to have to get somebody of worth on the ticket for the last month of the campaign. Then he can blame those horrible "liberals" for taking her down in last ditch effort to get some sympathy votes.

the fact that most of the new threads on this forum over the last couple of days are focused on things like troopergate, babygate, teen-pregnancy-gate, lack-of-experience-gate, etc., all point to one thing--this was one big fat, dumb choice on McCain's part. Palin's presence on the ticket has brought one distraction after another from his campaign's message. Even the most anti-Obama, pro-McCain supporters on this site have to see that she has been no help at all out of the gate and will likely become an even bigger distraction as the campaign picks up speed in the weeks to come.

AKC-no I'm not holier than thou, and have made my share of miscues and misstatements. But when I operate in my "official" position, I'm very careful to take the high road.
A governor speaking on the airwaves that are owned by the public should have been more guarded in her reactions. She probably knew going into the interview that these radio jerky boys were going to take the low road, and she blew the opportunity to look better than them. Since we don't know very much about Palin, this is going to be a factor in how we think she conducts herself.

The only one who is a person in this matter is McCain for bending over for the evangelical right with this choice. He's given us a clear window into the kind of executive decision-making we can expect from him--the same kind of narrow, ideological, short-sighted crap we've had for the last eight years. See ya back in the senate, loser.

You are no authority on how the Obama family would handle such a situation.

She was against it after it became a national joke and political liability for her to be for it. Great forward vision on her part. Just what we need in Washington right now. Not!
On July 2, 2008, the now-disgraced Sen. Ted Stevens and Governor Palin held a joint press conference on energy issues. As Steven’s hugged Palin she said “I have great respect for the Senator… He needs to be heard across America. His voice, his experience, his passion needs to be heard across America–so that Alaska can contribute more.”
The only people hearing from Stevens will be his attorney and his prison mate.

KOAJ, wishful thinking on your part. Obama has been battle-tested through the primaries and shown himself to be steady under pressure, whether it's the debates, tough interviews, a world tour or handling a controversy like the Reverand Blowhard thing. Palin looks like she's in way over head. We'll see if she's up to it or not. One thing's for sure, she's lacking Obama's oratorical prowress. Her shriek is worse than Hillary's. The late night comics have just been handed an endless gold mine of jokes.

Palin's immaturity and lack of gravitas is going to scream louder over the next eight weeks than her "first dude" husband's snowmobile engine.

The state-by-state electoral breakout on the realclearpolitics.com web site is one to watch heywud, mccain really rolled the dice with Palin. The choice is being billed as a play for women, but I think that's just a smokescreen. Choosing Palin was a play to solidify the shakey base and evangelical right. Her positions on choice and creationism have no appeal to Hillary supporters. The bump for McCain in that one poll may be all he'll see. Plus, it's unclear how thoroughly she was vetted. She may come undone over the next two months. . |
