Disagree....although the old Hilton, now Westgate, is a solid book, I would, based upon your nerves, use a book on the Strip...in the center of the Strip....Grand, Caesars, Bellagio, etc.

nc............Downtown just keeps getting better and better....Pls take a look at Joe Vicari's Andiamo Italian Steakhouse at The D............within 5 years, Downtown will challenge much, if not all, of the Strip's middle-range properties (Excalibur, NY/NY, Monte Carlo, Bally's..etc)

RM (Rick Moonen's place) at Mandalay Bay....the absolute best and non-touristy. Joe's Stone Crab @ Caesar's...touristy; but always decent |

[/Quote Sharp.....I visited corporate hq's a couple of years ago...the ex-COO gave me a tour and we discussed the IT aspects. If he mislead me, so be it...I'm still a fan of their business plan (both in Nevada and for the rest of the country)....and the parent company has enough $$$ to, eventually (when Congress wakes up), make Cantor Gaming the "Ground Zero" of Internet sports betting. |

Wow!!... Many thanks for the shout-out, Mafioso..... Yeah, Cantor has amazing technology....they first created it in London, where they started, has an "artificial intelligence" that feeds itself info and adjusts.... My one big negative is their phone app.....just not as user friendly (or as quick) as the William Hill app. Boston.....Mirage is an MGM property.....Cantor is Cosmo, Venetian, Palazzo, Trop, Hard Rock (on the strip)...and a few off the strip... |

When you go out to eat or drink, do you tip the waiter/waitress/bartender....EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT COOK THE FOOD THAT THEY BROUGHT TO YOU..JUST DOING THEIR JOB???.... Obviously, we all do...some more, some less..but we all do. Why, because we understand the nature of a "service industry job" and also are pretty certain that most people in these positions rely on their tips for additional income in what is, traditionally, a low per-hour wages job. If anyone thinks that a ticket writer has a simple job, just stand near a window in any tourist hotel on the strip and listen to how people bet their money and how the ticket writer has to "interpret" the bet, handle the computer process, and accurately handle the money...which in a busy weekend can be tens of thousands of dollars coming in and going out. If they do not balance at the end of their shift...under or over....they can be suspended without pay....and these are workers that, in some books, do not even make $10 a hour. So....next time, when you are next in line and watch a writer process 4 or 5 winning tickets from the guy in front of you..then pay that guy $2431.85 and watch that guy SCOOP UP THAT 85 CENTS...try to understand the reaction that some writers..not all...would have. |

If I'm going to tip someone at the sportsbook it's going to be the copycat manager who hung the bad line I bet into, you tip to getgood behavior repeated! Here's a trueism I learned after talking to every kind of dealer- They HATE you... In their eyes there are only 2 kinds of fish they deal all day- them that don't tip and them that tip and it's never enough. Glue don't tie your panties in a bunch cause the ticket monkey doesn't like you.. The lowest hourly pay in the entire casino goes to the ticket writers. If you play blackjack, do you tip the dealers? If you play craps, do you tip the dealers? Why wouldn't you tip the ticket writers...on a win? |

Shadow....The 55+ community of Sun City Anthem in Henderson is the only one to look at as far as that is considered....none of the others are worth it.....both in value for your dollar and construction/logistics. You can still...especially if you are buying with cash....find something at 50 cents on the dollar that is exceptional.

Mafioso.... Permit me some advice.....and I do appreciate your reasons for the move/change. I would strongly suggest that you explore downtown Las Vegas....perhaps even contact Tony Hseih and his senior executives at Zappos.com and see if you can work out something of an intial venture partnership. Do your research on the revitalization program and the changes in businesses on and near Fremont Street. You can appeal to both the tourist and the local businesses (especially the legal profession..which dominates downtown). You are NOT going to find that medical/educational package that you are looking for in a location in Las Vegas...or Summerlin...or Henderson. As a sidelight.....in accordance with my screen name....anything that you can do to replicate New York/New Jersey pies would help you greatly in marketing. Chicago pies are here as well as Grimaldi's (Patsy's back in NYC) with their 1700 degree coal burning oven; but NY/NJ pizzas don't get much play....(the lousy water out here doesn't help either).... I knew one of the family members of the largest pizza chain on the Jersey Shore....he made it out here for a few years...then business died (he was in Henderson).....Those that have survived offer inexpensive "family dining" in addition to the pies. If you are looking more at "day/lunch traffic" and takeout, then downtown would be my strongest advice. Wish you and your family the best.....VG |

All the casinos have had to adopt these procedures because a guy named Promark had been mooching off the casinos for years now.
Funny, yes....true?...not really....You cannot really believe that some bum who drank without betting created a new "drink policy" in Las Vegas?......and, no, the bartender cannot give out free drinks for losing tickets....no one looks at the betting tickets, only the "drink tickets".....
As for the "tip them for tickets" rule....it works better at a local than at a high-end strip book.....lower-end books have clerks that don't get much in tips, those are the ones where you can get more drink tickets for a tip.

Hi Rebel.....Understand....I just have a personal "hatred" for the drivers on I-15 or I-215....The Over/Under on how many of them don't have valid licenses/insurance is pretty high ..... I live in the area in the Seven Hills area of Henderson (2 minutes from The M and South Point)....driving locally, I am on the Strip and parked, usually, within 15 minutes. My major point about Henderson is the value in the RE market as compared to Summerlin...especially in the more upscale newer part. But, transciency comes with the territory, as compared to the more settled Summerlin. |

If you do some real estate research on Henderson, you will come up with Seven Hills, MacDonald Ranch, Anthem as 3 areas....all within a few minutes (or overlapping) of each other that are the most expensive areas in Henderson. However, within these developments, you can find serious value if you are buying...or even renting. This was the area that was overdeveloped during the boon in 2004-2007; this area in Henderson also has the best public schools (a reflection of the prices of the homes).... Since I do not know...or care to know...about your financial status, I am only pointing out this area of Henderson for reference as a comparison to the initial area that you mentioned in your post. Happy to provide more information for you if you could be more forthcoming about what you are looking for. As to Summerlin, it's not my favorite because, IMO, it's overdeveloped and traffic during the week can be a mess; but, yes, there are great areas in Summerlin and, on the other hand, because it is more developed, you have housing developments that are less transient and with people/families that are more settled....that, in itself, can be a big plus for someone. |
