When I analyze totals I think about tempo of offense and try to imagine why the number is set where it is and how I imagine the game will play out. This one sticks out to me because I believe it is inflated based on TN up-tempo style offense last year. I believe TN wants to run-uptempo, but in this game will probably not unless the D-line is just porous and can't stop the run. Strength of GT D is in the secondary and question marks in TN LB corp makes me think the up-tempo is a no-go and both teams will be playing keep away/grinding the clock. Everyone knows that if you go 3-out repeatedly against GT and let them sustain long drives the D will wear out so I think that TN trys to run much slower offense probably pounds the rock 40 times with some quick outs/wr screens and dormandy scrambles on 3rd down to move the chains and keep the D fresh for 4 quarters. Only way I see this going over is if TN starts gashing 5-10yd gainers on the ground repeatedly and starts going up-tempo to exploit a weakness that GT just cant stop. BOL but like the pick |

Still, he was pretty terrible for our spring game and Gurantano really needed to learn more about this offense so I hope they've learned how to work with the likes of John Kelly, Ethan Wolf & Juwan Jennings. bol I'm not sure which spring game you are referring to but the one held this last spring Dormandy was 10-10. cited news article " Prior to Saturday’s spring game, Tennessee Volunteers coach Butch Jones said the word of the day was opportunity. Quinten Dormady took full advantage of his opportunity. The junior quarterback, vying to replace Joshua Dobbs as the team’s starter, was a perfect 10 of 10 on the day and finished with 120 yards passing and two touchdowns. He was accurate on short passes. He showed touch on longer passes, connecting with brothers Ethan and Eli Wolf on the same wheel route. He made throws on the run. He read a cornerback blitz and reacted by throwing a quick pass to Jeff George that went for 16 yards." I'm not by any means saying Dormandy is the next Peyton Manning, but I'm confused as to why you said he looked terrible? I think he is quietly under the radar and has a chance to be a lot better than people think behind this experienced O-line. I get the feeling he is a mature, cool-headed, humble, but confident dude who might have the moxy to make the plays that TN needs when they need them. I doubt he will be like Tyler Bray and throw for 400-500 yards in any game but I think he is accurate and with the support of a solid ground game I think he hits those crucial throws. I'm excited to see! |

However, FYI although Butch Jones hasn't announced a starting QB, several players have alluded to the fact that this is a tactical move and that the teammates have known for quite some time who the starter will be I'm assuming Dormandy, who I believe is quietly under the radar better than most ppl realize. TN fields one of the nation's most experienced OL's in terms of # of starts vs. a GT defense that allowed over avg 5 yards/carry last year and lost some pieces on the DL. Intangibles TN strong special teams w/Evan Berry. Also, GT breaking in a new QB in triple-option offense w/alot of decision-making and dismissed top RB from team. I expect a healthy dose of John Kelly from TN and mix in some high percentage passes to keep the defense honest. History shows that teams do much better against triple option when having more than 1 wk to prepare as the key defensively is disciplined assignment football. Stay in your line cover your man don't get caught with your pants down in an overpursuit. This of course is my biggest ? w/TN is how disciplined will the defensive players be. I believe TN has the talent adv and Jones has kept them out of the media's radar. Small potatoes play on TN-3 just because I'm a homer, but IMHO the play is TN or no play at all.. feel like much more of the question marks are on GT side (GT secondary is extremely solid!) and alot of the perceived questions about TN reflect Coach Jones learning that TN is notorious for getting caught up in the hype stuff and under-performing. TN fan base is extremely critical and Shoop/Jones learned after last year to stay out of spotlight under the radar and lets the talking be done on the field. BOL to all just my 2 cents |

I really like the heart that TN has showed this year. They are a team which refuses to quit which is something I haven't seen out of the Vols for a long time. Paul Finebaum predicted the Vols might have a better chance of beating Bama at home than AnM on the road. That being said injuries and attrition continue to mount for the Vols so I just don't know about an outright win in this spot for the Vols who have played their hearts out the past 3 games. BOL has the spread at TN +12 -105. I think I will keep a close eye on this game and pull the trigger if it hits 14. Vols play much better as a dog and I feel like the home crowd will stay behind the Vols for the entire game in this one. Interested to see if LB Darrin Kirkland Jr may be able to play in this game. I do actually believe the Vols might have a shot at beating Bama in the SEC championship if they can get to Atlanta and get healthy. I would really like to see a Bama TN game where both teams are healthy because if the Vols got Cam Sutton and Kirkland Jr back (Reeves-Maybin out for season ) I think the Vols would have a legitimate shot at beating Bama. However, Vols have yet to play a mistake free game so turnovers would be my biggest concern.

Saw you liked Stanford +1.... Looking at BOL today and seeing Stanford +3 - 105 is there something I'm missing here? I like Stanford to win the game why is the money coming in on NotreDame?

TD Agreed I just added Wash St. +12 as well both bets for $50 I don't ever make really large wagers on early lines I like VTech especially in this spot against a UNC team coming off an emotional win against FSU what line would you guys like to see to jump on a VT play? |

Haha I'm always hesitant to bet on the Vols but as a 7.5 point dog I couldn't pass that up.. Psychologically the Vols play much better football when everyone expects them to lose. Also, young players on the defense have stepped up well to cover the loss of Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Darrin Kirkland Jr., and Cam Sutton. I thought that I heard Butch Jones say that Reeves-Maybin would be ready to go for the GA game however he did not play. I'm hoping that was a strategic coaching decision to make sure he was 100% for AnM and Bama so I expect him to play!

What do you guys think about Arkansas +13 as a home dog against Bama? Think it will go up to 14? Also what about Washington State +12 against Stanford... alot of points for the PIRATE!!

I think Penn St. opens up the playbook for this in state rivalry and I really like the +6 points... think the line is inflated from those who just check the scores of games... thoughts? |

what do you think about Penn. St? I think Pitt's yardage was pretty low against Villanova and likely doesn't reflect the final score. Maybe if I could get Penn st at +6or more?

I have to show up and admit I prematurely shot my wad on that one... wow Ol' Piss was the one who crapped the bed.. unbelievable mad props to FSU for a great comeback and 2nd half adjustments. I thought for sure when Cook just dropped that TD pass that this one was going to be over but man was I wrong... however still think that false start call on Ol' Miss on 4th down was BS that was clearly defensive encroachment even though they still converted

App st. is no slouch so good wake up call for the Vols. I didn't get to watch VT vs. Liberty wish I had though might go back and try to get a recap and yes your right App st. had a very experienced O and D line and they were playing very well. I might keep an eye on App st throughout the season they might be a team to bet on. However, that being said TN came out like they thought the game was going to be a showoff of their talent like it was already won and they had been blessed with this opportunity to show the world how awesome they are this year and they got showed. Opening drive D got 3 and out and Cam Sutton tried to field a punt near the 50 yardline with 3 App St. players around him that should have been fair caught to give TN offense good field position. Of course he looked up and saw everyone about to jam him in the mouth and he forgot to actually catch the football. Then Reeves-Maybin is barreling full speed in to the App St. player trying to receive the punt who doesn't signal fair catch and smacks him helmet to helmet and gets ejected for targeting.. While he didn't lead with the crown of his helmet like it wasn't blatent, he could have easily smashed the dude with his shoulder and knocked the ball loose he just got caught up in the moment trying to be the star. These were just two early examples of TN star players trying to showcase their talent and forgetting the basic fundamentals of football. It's an attitude that has always surrounded TN players when we get hype and recognition as being a top 10 team.. the players get big heads and think they have to make a superstar play to carry the team on their shoulders rather then just quietly doing their job correctly 100% of the time and relying on the entire team to come together. The only thing that irritates me more than shatty fundamentals is our fanbase who will be silent and booing when our team is in a tight close game with someone who is a "lesser" opponent. It's like our fans forget that the team needs the crowd noise even when they aren't doing well to get them back in it. Our fanbase only gets loud when TN is making huge plays anymore. Anyways enough of my rant on my beloved VOLS and just to clarify every single game I spent in Neyland Stadium I yelled at the top of my lungs every single down on Defense no matter the score and tried to get fans around me to get excited too. I still have my doubts about Butch Jones as a head coach. I have seen alot of good things but this situation to me is the real test because he has a whole game full of poor sloppy game film to sit the boys down and re-teach the fundamentals. If they don't show major improvement after having an extra long week of practice then in my opinion its the coaching because the talent is there. That being said I do believe as well... I think and hope that this game was the miracle we needed to deflate our heads, get humble, and focus on our playing before we lose to a less talented Florida team again and somehow we got blessed with a miracle and didn't lose the game! GO VOLS! sorry for the novel I've definitely had a couple beers |
