I have never gone to the Strip except once when a girl and I had a drink for $32. So nobody here goes to the Strip, but when we bet we use betting apps. I bet very few games, mostly college football, some NFL, and Canadian Football. This is mostly for fun, but I am 3-0 with the CFL up $1500 ($500 per bet). I think more money can be made with the stock market. Bought a home which is going up about 5000 per month. Check Zillow, if this continues I will sell out like I did with my home in Florida when it when it up 350%. Who the hell wouldn't take the profit. I can always go back to Texas, though I hate to leave this area since California, Arizona (my favorite) and Utah are so close.

I don't want to say too much, but I will be returning to LV before the NFL season starts. Am retired, have a secure pension from NV and SSA, almost at 50K per year based upon my work and my deceased wife's tenure as a teacher. Moreover, before going in a few weeks, I secured a part time job at $5k per year for 3 months work, as I don't want to work too much at my age. I lived in LV for over 14 years during my earning years and it was very good to me and my wife as employees, but not gamblers. Unfortunately, she died there of cancer at an early age. Of course, that was in the late 80's and early 90's before all the minorities moved in.
With a retirement investment account which I could live on until I'm a 100 without any pension, I think it is time to try to go back and have some fun with minimal football bets. I think this is the only way you can survive there. Any other way, I would advise against trying to make it. When I lived there, so many of my friends were in bankruptcy court. So many tried to live the dream, but they ended up broke.

This usually is a good source of Vegas and Offshore lines. When in Vegas, I look to this site first before running around and physically checking the books.

Okay, I have to be careful here as I don't want to disparage a former co-worker and friend, but this is true. When I lived in Vegas back in the late 80's, a compulsive gambler friend of mine came out to stay with me for a night or two. I woke up at midnight and I heard my wife in my guest bedroom talking to him. Concerned, I looked in. They were counting 100 dollar bills, nothing else going on. He had won 40 K betting 21 in one night at the Dunes (now imploded) and at the Flamingo even though he came into town with only 3 k. He went onto California the next day to see his parents. Once in Reno, he called me to wire him 4k, as I was slowly depositing his wins into my bank account to not trigger the 10 k reporting requirement. I was going to send him the winnings piecemeal later on. Yes, there are some of us who are honest. He said he won about 6 k in Reno and headed back to his mid west home. Then, a casino shortly thereafter flew him to Atlantic City for a one night freebie. There he won another 10 k in one day playing craps. Now he is up about 56 k and he calls up and says they are flying him back to Vegas all on the house and he intended to take me and wife out on the town for an experience we would never forget. He never called that day, so a day or two later, I called him. Yes, they flew him in, but he lost the entire 50 k in one day before my wife and I ever got out of work that day. He left immediately, not even staying one night.

imsoti8, Why? This guy was probably an alcoholic or a drug addict. He might even be dead by now. On the other hand, he might be a high school kid who dropped out of school and now keeps posters like you alive just to see how many hits the suckers will keep up the count. Give it a rest.

If you have any money, go west or northwest, but look out for the undocumented aliens who ruin apartments, condos, off west Charleston before you hit Rainbow. Forget the east side, the minorities have taken over this part of Vegas. My take, if you can afford it...look to Summerlin. If that is not an option because of the cost, look to Henderson, though this is quite a way from the major sports books. In Summerlin, you have access to the Red Rock, the Coast Casino up off Ramparts and the Palace Station is not that far away. In the alternate, you could do your sports betting by way of the internet or phone accounts.

Uncle Gimp, Please start a new thread. This one is way too old. Enough about the IP, since very few of us would ever stay there based upon all these posts. We need some fresh new ideas on where to stay and what is the current odds on the table games being played today.

I've owned homes and rental townhomes in Vegas over the course of my working years and in several other states. Gary Wittman in Las Vegas is probably the best realtor I have ever dealt with in all my years. Every year when I go back to Vegas, I still go around with him to see what is available and how the town has changed. His web page is:

In the old days, you could bet a dime a day on a team and get a fully comped meal (f&b) for you and your date. I'm talking the 80's. Now, in just about every book I have played at for the last 2 years, the average comp is $1 for every $500 in straight sports bets according to most managers. They are much more liberal with horse players. Myself, I don't even ask anymore.

Last year in an extended stay place, the kid next door was trying to make it as a poker player. He had been there over 6 months and he played every night in casino poker games and once in a while, held a private game in his room. He would stop playing around 6am when I was going out for my morning walk. Some nights he said he won 180 or so, some nights he lost. He sounded like he knew how to play poker, but he only had a small stake. His father sent him the rent every month as he couldn't make enough to cover all his expenses. Occasionally, I gave him left over pizza, etc. It seemed like a tough life. I believe he was going to try it for a year. I wonder if he made it.

With respect to the first one...The Orleans (Coast Casinos) are usually generous with drink tickets. As far as the rest, in your dreams.

I remember back in the late 70's, I tried this card counting system at the Circus Circus, very early in the morning head on with the dealer. I was up a small sum when the pit boss signaled for a new dealer. Damn, it was before 6 am. The new dealer shuffled and smiled after each deal, so I left the table and I have never played 21 since. Now, the only bets I make are on sports. My take, if you play 21, I doubt if you can win a few bucks anymore.
