A lot of times slow paying clients will think of the lamest excuses when they don't have the money to pay up. This business is a no-excuse business. If you make a bet, you better be able to afford to pay up if you lose. Bookies don't want to hear excuses, it's not their business why you can or can't pay up. They just want to be paid on time.

If he don't like it, he said he's going to tell him to go somewhere else. |

Posting this for a friend of mine that's a bookie in another state. He has a customer that slow paid him like $600, took him 2 months. So now that same customer won the same amount, my friend said he's going to slow pay him too and will use 2 months as a punishment. That customer of his is pissed off, but that's his fault. There's an old saying, you slow pay me and I slow pay you. It's a two way street.
What's your thought on this? |

Grown man in his 30-40's can't get 5-10 grand if he lost it? Tough to judge sometimes. Speaking of this, my friend uses the same bookie I use too. This one time my bookie told me he was introduced a new potential client by my friend. So he met up with him and that new guy requested $10,000 a week of credit to play on his website. My bookie asked for his bank statements and paycheck stubs and that new guy said no way. A week later, that new guy gave him copies of his bank statements and paycheck stubs. So he works at Target as a cashier, and only makes around $2,200 a month. What a fucking joke! My bookie laughed and asked him how the hell can he pay $10,000 a week if he lose? And that dumb guy said he always win, he never lose. RIGHT!!!!! What a fucking douche bag loser. My bookie just told him to go away, he's not interested to even give him $500 - $1000 a week of credit. |

In todays economy if you book bets for the same people long enough there is a strong chance they might lose their job or have some other emergency at some point. I'd rather be civil about it and work with them. All works out better in the long run and you stay out of jail. Cops don't give a shit about bookies. Cops give a shit about bookies who threaten people who don't pay them. good point too. let's say if something unfortunate happens and a player can't pay up, maybe lost his job or medical emergency, etc. It's best to just shut down his account and don't let them bet anymore until the debt is paid in full. That's the best scenario. |

I didn't wanna show him my bank statements and paycheck stubs at first, but I can see why he needs to see it. Words are just words, ain't nothing but words coming out of people's rotten mouths. Proof is golden evidence. Nothing beats proof. If a player claims he's a big time shot caller, big time player that's big time this and that shit, and he refuse to show his bank statements and paycheck stubs, then obviously he's a big bullshitter. Gotta have something to back that ass up cause running their mouths ain't shit. |

Obviously those certain bookies didn't really do their homework on those certain customers before giving them too much credit. What they should've done is check those big betting customers' income. If they want to bet $10,000 a week, their bank statement and paycheck stubs better look good. |

That's crazy and honestly not realistic. 3% a week is pretty standard in the business for guys that treat it like a business transaction. Dealing with gamblers you are going to get paid late by a certain percentage no matter how big and bad you are. I know several large outfit guys that tell me 20-30% don't pay in full each week. Best customers though, beat them out of money twice. Isn't 3% kind of little? Let's say you owe $1000, so that means a week of penalty fee is just $30? Even if anyone pays partial, it's still a penalty fee my bookie will charge. That's why all his customers are always on time when they lose, and we as players always get paid on time when we win. |

Ultimately as a bookie it is just like any other business, you have to accept some level of risk. If 1 out of 10 guys stiff you, remember the other 9 are still good customers and in the long run you will beat them out of money. People focus too much energy on this in my opinion. If you treat your players well, and are upfront, most will pay you in the long run. Just my personal two cents. Good point. But here's one of the easiest ways to tell if a new potential customer is a stiff. If they give you their home and work address, all contact informations, then most likely that person is not a stiff. Let's say at some point later on if they do happen to stiff because they were betting over their heads, you send people to their home or work to make them pay up. Worst case scenario is they call the cops and snitch. As we all know what happens to people that snitch. Snitches ought to get shot! But yea, it's most likely a person won't stiff if they let you know where they live and work at. If they don't want to let you know, then obviously they're stiffs. |

My uncle used to be a bookie before he retired a moved away, so I used to be one of his runner. I helped him collect and payout. So I know how to spot a stiff from far away.
How do you know if a person is a stiff player? |

It's a good thing my local guy takes large amount of wagers. But he'll only do business with people he can shake hands with.
