Learning that Prez can't hire head of SEC, today McCain calls for firing of FEC head
in Politics McCain's been flapping his lips before he had all the facts. He's been flip-flopping from day to day and across a 25 year history of deregulation. Pointing fingers is not a solution. No thanks. We bareley got through the last seven years of that nonsense. I'll take somebody who's going to gather all the facts first. That's leadership. McCain's faking it.

in Politics "the president's removal authority over SEC commissioners remains untested--the subject of speculation but no precise judicial decision."
So McCain was saying that he would take the country into even deeper turmoil by inviting a constiutional battle through a quasi-legal unilateral decision.
That's the kind of leadership we need right now. Not!

I apologize for not proofreading the subject of this thread before posting.
It should read:
Did Obama and McCain lose the 2008 election to socialism?

Did Obama and McCain both lose to the 2008 election to socialism this week?
in Politics I'm just asking. I don't know. A reasonable person could sure argue the point.
The government bailout this week--carrying a price tag thatcould run up to $1 trillion dollars--occurred with hardly any partisan debate in public. It's maybe the most amazing piece of government action I've ever seen--in terms of lightening speed and non-partisan wrangling--I've ever seen. Is Henry Paulson the tsar now? Will he, or the Washington appartchik under him, hold the mortgage on my house?
I've read posters on here sounding like the prophets of doom forecasting the coming of socialism under an Obama presidency.
Looks like President Bush beat Barack to the socialist sucker punch.
Or was there a silent coup this week? Maybe Joe McCarthy was right. Communists really have been hiding like cockroaches in the government woodwork since the 1930s. They burst from their hiding places when the economic lights went out this week and rewired The Machine.
We've been in the operating roomo all week, and I don't think anybody knows if the patient will survive the surgery that was performed to stop the bleeding. Maybe just crippled? Or it might be a full recovery.
The running dog capitalist stock market even seemed bouyed, even narcotically high, on socializing the fincance and banking industry.
What's next, socializing health care? Could those damn communist cockroches have provided an economic model that can applied to the health care crisis?
I don't know. But it sure looks like ideology died this week. Even Republicans were fellow travelers in giving us a whole new meaning of "red state." We're not better off dead, after all.
It's a brave, new world.

in Politics Never was "it's the economy, stupid" more appropriate than with McCain. Still waiting on today's video of McCain saying he would ask for the head of the "FEC" to resign over Wall Street meltdown. Republicans were making fun of Obama tripping over what AIG stands for, but McCain has had the week from hell. He's out of his league in this crisis. Obama looking far more presidential this week than either the befuddled McCain or Palin the blowhard. |

Whether you like it or not, we need oil and if we have our own, why pay for someone elses?
Oil is a world commodity. Oil companies are huge multi-national companies. They will sell the oil to the highest bidder. Just because oil is off our shores or underneath our feet doesn't mean that it will stay here if it is extracted. If these companies can make a higher profit by selling "American" oil to China, they'll do it. Don't kid yourself. |

Palin is a non-starter. The best thing Dems can do is ignore her. She has been playing the victim card from the day McCain announced her as his VIP choice.

McCain's response to the Wall Street meltdown = blame it on Obama.
Obama looking far more presidential -- calm, reassuring, in touch, mature & responsible -- than McCain.

Really like "Love Sick" on Time Out of Mind album. If I had a band, I'd cover it with a heavier style & chunky riffs.

in Politics Big deal! Republicans always get high and mighty over the small stuff even as their arrogance blinds them to the big picture.
On Tuesday, McCain said that he didn't want taxpayers to be ``on the hook'' for AIG. ``We cannot have the taxpayers bail out AIG or anybody else,'' McCain on NBC's ``Today'' show.
24 hours later on ABC's "Good Morning America" McCain tripped over himself in flipping to supporting the $85 billion dollar bailout of AIG. Apparently, he didn't know on Tuesday (or care) how AIG's failure would put millions of American at risk.
McCain either doesn't know jackshit about the economy or he'll say anything to get elected. My money's on the latter, but I'll hedge my bet and put a little on the former.
