Love the pick from a value fan. I'm a fairly tuned-in golf fan and I had no idea that Noren was up to 10th in the world. The European Tour president was on tv yesterday and spoke very highly of him.
This is his first time playing in the Masters. No rookie has won the Masters since 1979. Though Noren is 10th in the world, he has had both some good and mediocre results lately: T5 at the Match Play, but mediocre at Arnie's and Mexico. Prior to the match play, his last impressive result was in November.

And, if it matters, here's why I'm unemployed: I was working for an IT consulting firm, and quite unexpectedly the client ended our project due to budget reasons. My consulting firm tried to find my team members a new project, but they were unable to find a new project for me.
I work on IT projects, but on the project management side, not in a technical capacity. My field is definitely far less in-demand than positions for developers, technical architects, etc. I had a final couple round interviews in March, but they went with other candidates. I'm just trying to not get evicted. I rent an apartment in a large, corporate-owned building, and they have zero flexibility for rent not paid on time. Due to some medical issues, (which I can document in private), I don't have any savings built up. So that's my situation. I tried applying for loans from places like lending club, etc., but given my current employment status, they weren't willing to offer me a loan.

I'm going through a rather tough time right now. I really don't appreciate the sarcastic comments of so many. Trust me, if you were in my spot and had to resort to trying any means necessary, you wouldn't feel good about having strangers on a forum make fun of you.
I obviously understand if you don't want to get involved in any way, but I wish that you didn't feel the need to mock and pile on.

Pretty big Northwestern fan here. That's definitely the consensus on him. Often tries to play hero ball. 40% shooter, ideally he'd be closer to 50%. His assist to turnover ratio has fallen each of the last two seasons.
I very much agree that he doesn't have much court vision. He was the team's leading scorer tonight, but only shot 35%. 25% from downtown, did make all five of his free throws. I agree on his struggles. He has one season left, and given his regression over the past few years (defenses honing in on him more?), I don't expect things to be much better next year. But it's important to realize that there's no guard on the team clearly better at this point. BMac's other top choice was Indiana State, so it's hardly like he was a prized recruit. Northwestern has much tougher academic recruiting standards than the rest of the Big Ten, so the pool of players that they can go after isn't too large. And, for a kid smart enough to play at Northwestern, if he has the talent to go somewhere else and win more, he probably will. Just remember how atrocious NU basketball was throughout much of the '80s and '90s. Bill Carmody made it respectable (and almost made the tourney), and Collins not only got the 'Cats to the tourney for the first time ever, but won a game, and put on a heart-filled performance in front of the nation. I don't expect Northwestern to get much better in the years ahead. I'll be happy if they can get to the 'Iowa level': make the tourney every 2 or 3 years, challenge for the Big 10 crown occasionally, etc. The team is getting a terrific new basketball facility, so that should help in the long run. |
