Things aren’t feeling so care-free in the Big Easy after the New Orleans Saints stumbled out to an 0-2 start in the 2012 NFL season.
New Orleans, after getting shocked by Washington in Week 1, put in a lifeless effort on defense versus the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday, falling 35-27 as a 3-point road favorite.
The Saints entered Week 2 as 30-1 long shots to win the Super Bowl, but now sit at 60-1 heading into Week 3’s meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs. And they weren’t the only team making jumps on the NFL futures board. Here’s a look at some of the notable Super Bowl odds moves:
San Francisco 49ers
The Niners entered Week 2 at 6-1 to win the Super Bowl, hot off a win over the favorites heading into the season, the Green Bay Packers. San Francisco took a 27-19 victory against the Detroit Lions and are now 4-1 to win Super Bowl XLVII - the favorite ahead of the Packers and Patriots at 8-1.
New England Patriots
The Pats are still in shock after losing at home to Arizona in Week 2. New England entered the second week of the season as +450 notables to win the Super Bowl but is currently available at 8-1. Perhaps now is the best time to buy the Patriots with a Sunday night showdown versus the Ravens on deck.
The Texans look like the class of the AFC starting 2-0 with victories over Miami and Jacksonville. Those opponents won’t send bettors running for the window but books have adjusted Houston from +700 to +450 heading into Week 3’s meeting with the Denver Broncos. Expect another move if the Texans can trump their old AFC South rival, Peyton Manning.
A win over the Patriots in Foxboro will do wonders for a team’s confidence – and Super Bowl odds. The Cardinals entered Week 2 as a 120-1 long shot but have had that number cut in half to 60-1 with a date against the Eagles on tap next Sunday.
Dallas even had a few extra days to recover from the hangover of beating the Giants in the season opener, but suffered a classic letdown spot versus Seattle in Week 2. The Cowboys didn’t look ready to play from the opening kick – which they fumbled – and have dropped from 16-1 to 25-1 heading back home to take on Tampa Bay.
