QB change for Jets; sharps still pounce on Chargers

Dec 19, 2012 |
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan named Greg McIroy his starter for their Week 16 home game versus San Diego, opting to finally bench the struggling Mark Sanchez and leapfrog Tim Tebow, the assumed No. 2 QB until now.

Ryan informed Sanchez late Monday night following his debacle performance in a 14-10 loss to Tennessee on Monday Night Football as a 1-point (closing line) underdog. Sanchez threw four interceptions and leads the league this season with 24 turnovers.

Oddsmakers opened the Jets as 3-point favorites this week but sharps pounced on the Chargers Tuesday morning and drove the line down to Jets -1

The New York Daily News reported that Tebow will now ask for a trade at season's end. With the controversy at QB, a playoff spot now out of the question and speculation Ryan could be fired at season's end, New York has a dark cloud hanging over its head heading into its final two games.

Sunday's total is posted at 40.5 points.
