The highly-anticipated matchup between the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers Thursday may not have been the NBA Finals preview basketball fans were hoping for when the Lakers added Dwight Howard and Steve Nash this offseason.

However, Miami’s 99-90 road win at Los Angeles did speak to NBA futures bettors and had oddsmakers juggling the championship odds early Friday morning.

The Heat had dropped from +200 to +210 after their recent road troubles but are now back at +200 following the victory over the Lakers. Los Angeles, which had fallen all the way to +1100 after a rough start to the season, is now priced at +1,200.

“Los Angeles still has enough games left to try and sort out things,” Aron Black of Bet365.com told Covers. “Injuries have been pretty bad considering they haven’t really played with Kobe, Nash, Howard, Gasol and Artest. Yes, he’s still Artest to me.”

The Lakers have taken a backseat to their Staples Center roommates, the Los Angeles Clippers, in the first half of the schedule. The Clippers have jumped out to a 31-9 SU start and currently sit at +500 to win the NBA Championship, behind Miami and the Oklahoma City Thunder (+280). The San Antonio Spurs are listed at +700, in front of the Lakers.

“Los Angeles sees a real power shift, Miami puts the road worries to rest - for now - and OKC just keeps doing what they do,” says Black. “So no matter how good the Lakers do over the next 20 games, they have some serious competition.”
