David Stern's press conference at the Wynn Las Vegas featured some surprising comments that suggest the NBA might be softening its stance on Las Vegas.

“Given sort of all the references you see about Las Vegas and ‘Sin City,’ we have always believed that gambling is a very legal business regulated carefully in Nevada, that this is a huge entertainment destination and this is a place that we should embrace,” Stern said.

This is a big about-face from Stern and the NBA compared to what we've been hearing from the New Jersey sports betting case. And it's about time.

The summer development league is thriving in Las Vegas and plans are in the works for a beautiful new arena at the MGM Grand. Stern stopped short of making any predictions that we'd see an NBA team in Sin City but he wasn't ruling it out either.

“I think Las Vegas is in the NBA history books," Stern said, "and with the discussions now, it seems that there is an arena that is getting closer to moving ahead after years and years of discussions.”
